Following the UFC on Fox 3 pre-fight press conference, UFC president Dana White spoke with the media and some sneaky fans about a slew of different topics. Among the most pertinent were Chael Sonnen’s controversial comments on Brazilians and Jon Jones’ championship run in the light heavyweight division and his possible move to heavyweight.

On Jon Jones as a dominant champion:

I think it’s great if a guy dominates like a guy like Anderson who has dominated as long as he has, but it is what it is. There was a time when that 205-pound title switched hands quite a bit there. Chuck lost it and then Rashad had it. Rampage had it. Forrest had it…it is what it is.

Regarding Jon Jones’ rumored jump to heavyweight:

I just think he’s so young. Let me tell you about Jon Jones. Have you every heard Jon Jones say ‘this was a hard cut for me’ or seen him go on the scales and look like a skeleton or anything? He makes that cut easy. When you talk about going to heavyweight, you talk about f*cking Junior Dos Santos and guys that are monsters…huge guys. I just think that he’s so young, he’s still learning, he’s still got a long way to go. I know it’s crazy saying that about the champ that’s just annihilated every champ in the 205-pound division in UFC history, but he still has a lot to learn.

On taking Chael Sonnen to Brazil:

It’s not fun taking Chael to Brazil. I was actually very confident that if we did the big stadium, we’d pull this thing off and bring Chael down there. I didn’t think that Chael would say the type of shit he was gonna say down there. It’s one thing to say that in your living room in America. You can say crazy sh*t like that. But I can tell you that was one of the most surreal press conferences I’ve ever been in. I joke about that we’d have to dig a tunnel in the octagon to get him out but, but I’m starting to believe it. He’s crazy.

I’ve been up since 7:00 AM trying to get my day started. I’m still running on little to no sleep and I doubt that changes until Sunday, when fight week is officially over.

The UFC is trying to do it big this week, setting up the media activities in New York City, with today’s venue being the world-famous Beacon Theatre.

The theaters in Manhattan are extremely audacious and flamboyant, with everything Roman-themed and  covered in gold leaf.

The plan for today is to cover the presser and then head down to Times Square with Bleacher Report’s Rick Lee to speak with Kenda Perez.

Rick’s never been to NYC, so he’s going to lose his mind at how overwhelming it actually is. The plan is to interview people on the street and then hit the Bleacher Report New York offices. You know…kissing babies and shaking hands. That kinda thing.

One of the funnier things is that with the fans arriving, people are now asking Tracy Lee for photos. She’s a celebrity in the MMA world. It’s wild.

I sit here in the lobby of the host hotel at 8:00 a.m. waiting for the rest of the media to wake up and board the bus the UFC has arranged to take us to the open workouts.

This is the third UFC event that I have covered and the first that has been for my new home at Bleacher Report.

When I found out the UFC was returning to New Jersey, I jumped at the opportunity as I would be able to not only cover the event, but also see some friends as well. However, with fight week beginning officially in an hour, I know that there won’t be any time to do anything but cover the fights this weekend.

Today, the UFC has arranged for the open workouts to be held at the Church Street Boxing Gym in Manhattan. Each fighter has their own routine at workouts, with some going full bore on the mat while others will skip them entirely and just speak with the media.

I will be video taping all of the interview opportunities and will post them here today.

Welcome to fight week. I hope you enjoy the ride.
