Caros Fodor beat Thomas Diagne by unanimous decision Friday night on the Strikeforce Challengers card in Everett, Washington, but he wasn’t satisfied.

In fact, Fodor, who improved his pro MMA record to 6-2, said immediately following the fight that he felt like he only showed off about 60 or 70 percent of what he can do, and he offered the fans an apology for letting the fight go to the judges’ scorecards.

“I really don’t have an excuse, I was a little bit off,” Fodor said. “I apologize for that.”

In a sign of how much Mike Kyle has done to resurrect his career — and a sign of how shallow Strikeforce’s light heavyweight division is — Kyle is being discussed as a light heavyweight title contender after choking out Abongo Humphrey on Friday night’s Strikeforce Challengers card.

Kyle and Humphrey engaged in some exciting if not particularly technically proficient striking first round, and then in the second round Kyle forced Humphrey to tap to a rear-naked choke, improving his record to 17-7-1. Afterward Strikeforce’s television announcers suggested that the victory makes Kyle the No. 1 contender in the light heavyweight division.

Strikeforce fighter Jason Mayhem Miller thinks CBS announcer Gus Johnson is an “idiot” for his comments at the end of the April Strikeforce show, and UFC announcer Joe Rogan agrees with that assessment.

In a wide-ranging discussion on Rogan’s UStream show, Miller and Rogan expressed their agreement with what many MMA fans said immediately following the CBS broadcast: Johnson made a bad situation even worse by describing the brawl following the main event as the kind of thing that just sometimes happens in MMA.

Miller, who provoked the brawl that broke out in the cage by confronting Jake Shields following his victory in the main event, said that as he was being hit by Shields’ entourage, “The freaking idiot Gus Johnson goes, ‘Gentlemen, this is national television.’ I’m like, ‘Ha ha, no s**t’.”

The light heavyweight class is the marquee division in the UFC, so much so that when Jon Jones fights Vladimir Matyushenko on August 1, it will be the 10th light heavyweight main event of the last 19 UFC shows.

All that light heavyweight talent in the UFC means that the winner of the Jones-Matyushenko fight won’t necessarily be particularly high in the 205-pound rankings, or particularly close to a shot against the champion, Shogun Rua. Both Jones and Matyushenko say they’re fine with that.
