According to FightersOnly.com, former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar failed to make an appearance in a Canadian courtroom to answer questions after violating hunting laws in Alberta last year.
Lesnar, who is preparing for his upcoming bout against Alistair Overeem at UFC 141, did not appear in a courtroom in Medicine Hat, Alberta, and he is charged on three counts of violating the Alberta Wildlife Act.
“A whitetail deer was found in the possession of the taxidermist and was not tagged, and as a result of that, an investigation ensued,” Alberta Sustainable Resource Development spokesman Darcy Whiteside told the Calgary Herald.
Lesnar, who is an avid hunter, owns property in Alberta and frequently visits on his down-time.
With Lesnar having failed to make a court appearance, the court date has been pushed back to January 19, 2012.
If Lesnar is found guilty, he could face up to a year in prison.

Although he fell short at regaining the UFC light heavyweight title, Lyoto Machida‘s performance against Jon Jones has the Brazilian confident about a rematch in the future.
Machida utilized footwork and his angles to get inside of the champion and catch him a few occasions to win the first round. However, the second round saw Jones use his wrestling skills to take down and control his opponent, before applying a standing guillotine to earn the submission victory.
While speaking to FightersOnly.co.uk, “The Dragon” said the loss is a little disappointing, but he intends on focusing on his next fight in order to reach his goal of becoming a UFC champion once again.
“I lost but I still have three more fights at UFC and now my main goal is to be the champion of the weight class and bring the belt back to Para,” Machida said.
The recent loss has some fans suggesting the idea that Machida transitions to the middleweight division due to being undersized at 205 pounds. The Brazilian entered the bout looking more muscular and stronger than in his previous bouts, as he added 20 pounds of muscle while preparing for the 24-year-old Jones during training camp.
However, Machida intends to remain competing in the light heavyweight division for the time being, but he did not rule out the possibility of moving to 185 pounds.
“Now, I don’t want to change—but if I am not the light-heavyweight champion it really could happen.”
The loss has also gained Machida a bigger fan base because of the overwhelming support he received following the bout. He was grateful and appreciative towards their support.
“I wanted to thank the fans for the support. I know we gave our best and I know we did our best,” he said. “I am a professional and it is part of my career: to win or to lose. I hope the next time we can celebrate together!”

Since making the announcement regarding the inaugural season of The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil, UFC president Dana White is optimistic over its potential success.
“I think that The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil is going to be extremely successful here,” White said. “I think the amount of talent that is going to be cultivated in Brazil from The Ultimate Fighter alone is going to be phenomenal. I think you’re gonna see a lot of young people in Brazil get into mixed martial arts and training.”
In addition to expanding the reality series onto South American soil, the UFC announced that fellow Brazilian’s Vitor Belfort and Wanderlei Silva would serve as opposing coaches, according to MMAjunkie.com.
The premise of the series will be primarily in Brazil, and White believes it will bring more exposure to mixed martial arts, which is already gaining a strong following in Brazil.
“When you think about it, not everyone can be professional soccer players, not everybody can play on a professional soccer team. A lot of people can get into the UFC and make a good living or become a world champion someday,” he said via MMAWeekly.com

Fresh off an impressive performance against Lyoto Machida at UFC 140, Jon Jones’ reign isn’t going to be any easier as the UFC light heavyweight champion has two challengers waiting for him: Rashad Evans and Dan Henderson.
The bad blood involving Jones and Evans already has set the tone for an anticipated grudge match between the former teammates, however, there is arguably more intrigue that lies with Henderson.
Randy Couture, who is a good friend and longtime training partner of Henderson, said he is interested in a potential bout regarding the former PRIDE star and the 24-year-old Jones based on the styles they represent.
“At the ripe old age of 40 Danny is coming into his own. He’s firing on all cylinders right now,” Couture told ESPN.co.uk. “He’s got a tremendous wrestling background, he’s got one of the best right hands in the sport, it’d be interesting to see how he’d deal with Jon and how Jon would deal with him.”
Henderson’s current track record likely makes him more deserving than any other challenger at 205 pounds to contend for the title. His recent bout against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua is widely considered one of the best fights of all-time and undoubtedly a lead candidate for Fight of the Year honors.
But Jones’ recent performances over the likes of Rua, Quintion “Rampage” Jackson and Lyoto Machida makes it hard to not consider him the best fighter in the light heavyweight division momentarily.
While most would argue that Jones’ overwhelming size and reach advantage would provide a lot of difficulty for the 41-year-old, Couture said Henderson’s style would test Jones’ chin and force him engage, cancelling out the reach advantage.
“I don’t see reach being a huge issue,” he said. “There’s going to have to be an engagement at some point in that cage and we’d get to see what type of punch Jon can take.”

Brock Lesnar will make his anticipated return at UFC 141 to face Alistair Overeem after enduring a long layoff with diverticulitis.
The extended break has left some fans skeptical about Lesnar’s return and are doubting he will become as dominant as he was before. But according to UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture, the best has to yet to come from the 265-pound South Dakota native.
“I don’t think his difficulties will affect his ability to fight,” Couture told ESPN.co.uk. “I think he’s going to be better having had, for the first time, the time to change and realise his potential.”
Couture defended the UFC heavyweight title against Lesnar at UFC 91, which saw the former WWE star pummel the 47-year-old to capture the heavyweight crown. There was an enormous size disadvantage between the two heavyweights as Lesnar used his size and strength to wear down the smaller Couture.
Since then, Lesnar has trained with “The Natural” and Couture believes the former UFC champion is more credible than people might think.
“Something about being stood in front of a guy who is that size, but can still move as fluidly as he moves is a very unique thing. You don’t find guys like that, he’s an anomaly,” he said.
But having shared experience with both Lesnar and Overeem, Couture said the bout will come down to which competitor can implement their strength first.
“If Brock closes the distance and gets his hands on Overeem, you’re going to see Overeem on the bottom a lot. That’s not a great place to be,” he said. “If Brock’s timid and allows Overeem to establish his range and throws those big knees, we’ve established that Brock hasn’t made friends with being hit in the face yet.”
“Either way, it’s a great fight and an exciting match-up, no doubt,” he added.
When it was learned that Wanderlei Silva and Vitor Belfort would be as opposing coaches on the inaugural season of The Ultimate Fighter Brazil, it also became apparent a rematch between the two rivals would eventually culminate. Belfort and Silva …
Belfort and Silva met once before in the Octagon, as “The Phenom” unleashed a wild flurry on Silva and defeated his opponent in just 44 seconds at UFC 17.5.
The two competitors have led very different careers since then, but the image of Belfort blasting through Silva with relative ease still remains in the minds of many fans to this day.
And for what it’s worth, the UFC is anticipating a big expansion over in South America and the show will more than likely draw a lot of viewers.
Sadly, the idea of matching up the same competitors, especially when Silva’s skills have dramatically declined over the years, serves no purpose other than recycling a grudge match to attract ratings.
While recording a big win over Cung Le at UFC 139, the truth is that Silva can no longer compete with the elite fighters in the middleweight division. Unlike Silva, Belfort at least still has the skills to remain a contender at 185 pounds, although his age might suggest otherwise.
If the UFC hopes on making a good first impression, it wouldn’t be smart to give “The Axe Murderer” an opportunity against an opponent whose speed and knockout power still exist.
Silva might look at this bout as a chance to entertain the fans, but due the amount of damage he has absorbed throughout his legendary career, one would suggest this bout will be far from entertaining as opposed to one-sided.
Silva’s prime years are long and far gone, but if the UFC is attempting at a comeback for the 35-year-old, this wasn’t the matchup to schedule for it.
In all likelihood, this bout will keep Belfort atop the rankings, while determining the fate of Silva’s career.
