Carlos Condit and Rory MacDonald will meet for the second time inside the Octagon when the UFC returns to Montreal for UFC 158 on March 16.

In their first meeting, at UFC 115 in 2010, MacDonald battered Condit for the better part of the fight and was on his way to a unanimous decision victory. However, Condit took advantage of a tired MacDonald and turned the tables in the final round. With seven seconds remaining in the bout the referee had to save MacDonald from brutal ground and pound from Condit.

Each man has had four fights since that night with the only loss being Condit‘s recent title shot against Georges St. Pierre. The rematch will have big implications for the UFC’s welterweight division.

Here is how the fight breaks down.

Invicta FC Airing Fourth Fight Card as a PPV Event

Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp announced on MMA Fight Corner that the organization’s fourth show will air via an online pay-per-vew:As we go into 2013…this next event is going to be pay-per-view,” Knapp stated. “In 2012, we …

Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp announced on MMA Fight Corner that the organization’s fourth show will air via an online pay-per-vew:

As we go into 2013…this next event is going to be pay-per-view,” Knapp stated. “In 2012, we went in and we gave our product away all year long, the shows that we did. We built the brand and now we’re in the process, we’ll start with the first [in 2013] which will be a pay-per-view. We’ll see how that goes. But we’re prepared to use the internet. I mean the internet has done what it has for us for now.

Invicta FC 4 will feature 13 bouts overall. The main event of the evening will crown the first strawweight champion when Carla Esparza (8-2) squares off against Claudia Gadelha (9-0).

The co-main event will feature two top ten bantamweights. Sixth-ranked Shayna Baszler (15-7) meets third-ranked Alexis Davis (12-5) in a crucial clash as the UFC gets set to embark on opening a 135-pound division at the sports highest level.

Knapp continued on the MMA Fight Corner:

It’s a gamble and it has been since I sat down and formulated it. The first year out, we far exceeded any of the expectations that I had using it the way we did. You know, coming out and marketing it and doing it the way we did, we were very successful. This next year, now we move into phase two which is we look at the monetizing of the brand, and the product, and that kind of thing – you know, knock on wood – being blessed that it continues to grow, and just keep putting on a better product, and doing better things, and continuing to walk the walk and hopefully we get to where we want to go.

Invicta FC 4: Gadelha vs. Esparza takes place January 5th from Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas.

Invicta FC has yet to announce the price point of the show or where the online PPV will air.

The co-main event of UFC on FX 6 was one-of-two The Ultimate Fighter: Smashes finales.

Robert Whittaker picked up Smashes title with a unanimous decision victory over Brad Scott and stole the show in the process.

The hype around the card circled around the opening fight on FX, Hector Lombard vs. Rousimar Palhares, and the main event between George Sotiropoulos and Ross Pearson. However, both fights were largely one-sided affairs.

Whittaker and Scott battled in a back-and-forth competitive fight that got the crowd on their feet for three rounds. Not an easy task.

The undercard featured three finishes as well.

However, all were first-round knockouts. Exciting finishes, but not exciting fights. The only other competitive fight on the card was the second fight of the night that next-to-no-one cared about.

Whittaker and Scott gave fans what they wanted to see: a fight.

In the opening round, Whittaker found his range first. The Australian peppered Scott with his strikes. Scott lost the round, and the home crowd felt like it was going to be an easy victory for Whittaker.

Scott proved them wrong as he came back strong in the second round. He put Whittaker on his back and then tried to get a finish.

Whittaker showed good defense with Scott on his back. Eventually, he would get back to his feet.

In the final minute of the second round, Whittaker again landed some shots, but Scott was far enough ahead in the round to take it on the scorecards.

There was finally a fun fight that was a tossup entering the last round. They continued to deliver.

Whittaker and Scott went back-and-forth in the third round. Each fighting the others’ face with their fists. It looked like it had the potential to send the fight to the sudden-death round, but Whittaker would see that it would not reach those circumstances.

In the back-half of the round, Whittaker landed more often and found a rhythm. He controlled the last couple of minutes and picked up the win.

While the card as a whole produced exciting moments, this was the only fight to give us an exciting matchup.

It was not one-sided and featured both, stand up and ground action.

This fight stole the show and is worth of fight of the night.
