According to Prommanow.com, this past Wednesday, former PRIDE and UFC combatant Dewey Franklin Trigg lll was arrested on a charge of battery. Said charges are a result of an alleged domestic violence dispute, where Trigg was accused of strangulation.

Trigg is being detained at the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas, Nev., on a bond of $15, 000. His court arraignment is Aug. 10.

News of the domestic altercation first came to light in April of 2010 when TheDirty.com posted a picture of his wife, Nicole Trigg, with lacerations around her neck. His wife averred the crime, which was committed in front of their children in October of 2011.

About the same time, “Twinkle Toes” released a statement strenuously denying the allegations.

With regards to his ongoing predicament, this past April Trigg again fervently denied any wrongdoing whilst appearing on “The MMA Hour.”

I’ve never been arrested, I’ve never been picked up, I’ve never been convicted of anything ever in my life other than a speeding ticket. That’s the only thing I’ve ever been convicted of. That’s it. So I don’t know where this other stuff is coming from. I have no idea what’s going on, but I’ve never been charged with any crime ever in my life, ever, other than speeding and maybe a couple illegal parkings.

The 40-year-old New Yorker twice vied for the UFC welterweight championship, which at the time was held by UFC Hall of Famer Matt Hughes. On both occasions, Trigg was submitted via rear-naked choke.

Trigg currently plies his trade for BAMMA promotions. His last fight for the company was a split decision loss to Jim Wallhead in September of 2011.

UFC 150: Jake Shields Wants Middleweight Title Shot as Soon as Possible

If Jake Shields dispatches Ed Herman at UFC 150, he has his eyes set on a possible shot at the middleweight crown currently in the possession of Anderson “The Spider” Silva.

Shields told MMA Weekly Radio (via MMAWeekly.com):

I want to get right in that title mix. 185 is wide open and everybody’s talking about who’s next. I want to go out there and hopefully put on a great performance and get to throw my name in the mix.

Following the first and last defense of his Strikeforce middleweight belt, Shields headed to the UFC and was instantaneously thrust into the thick of things. His first bout was a welterweight title eliminator matchup against Martin Kampmann, a fight he won via split decision.

However, he would lose an eventual title tilt to reigning 170-pound champion Georges St-Pierre before going on to suffer an opening-stanza starching, courtesy of Jake Ellenberger.

Before opting to make his third jump to middleweight, Shield’s faced off against Yoshiro Akiyama. He won that matchup by way of unanimous decision.

To date, the erstwhile Strikeforce champion is 2-1 in his middleweight foray. Two of those victories came against Dan Henderson and Jason Miller. His sole loss at said weight was against Marty Armendarez, which also happened to be his third professional outing.

With that in mind, the Cesar Gracie fighter believes his triumph over the former Strikeforce 205-pound champion should at least give him some sort of latitude regarding the current middleweight picture.

You never know what counts for what, but it’s got to count for something. I’m the last guy to beat Dan Henderson and he’s fighting for the 205-pound belt, so that’s got to give me some credit at 185 and if I can go out there and win, and win in a dominant fashion, it will get people talking about me and other contenders at 185.

On that note, Shields figures there’s no clear-cut No. 1 contender to Silva’s crown.

It’s up for grabs and that’s why it’s hard to say who deserves a title shot. I don’t even know. (Chris) Weidman looked amazing versus Mark Munoz, and then you have (Michael) Bisping’s got to be close, and even though Chael Sonnen lost, considering what he did the last time, a couple more wins he could be right back in there. There’s lots of guys in the mix.

Still, the 33-year-old Californian native is pragmatic enough to comprehend a victory over Herman—who, at present, is riding a three-fight win streak—won’t automatically guarantee him an immediate tilt at the title. And as such, he’s all for locking horns with the division’s upper-echelon combatants.

I wouldn’t be next in line, but if I beat him, there’s not one particular person I want to fight, but I want one of the big contenders. A Bisping, Weidman, (Tim) Boetsch, one of the guys that’s close to the title.

Apparently, Shields (27-6-1 MMA, 3-0 SF, 2-2 UFC) has always wanted to throw hands with Silva, as he believes his wrestling pedigree will cause Silva problems, a skill set former NCAA Division l standout Chael Sonnen was able to employ in his two championship fights with the Brazilian.

UFC 150: Benson Henderson vs. Frankie Edgar ll is scheduled to take place on August 11, 2012 at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colo.

UFC 152: Michael Bisping Cut in Training, but Fight with Brian Stann Is Still on

Michael “The Count” Bisping has suffered a cut above his left eye in preparation for his UFC 152 encounter with Brian Stann.

However, there’s no need to panic, as the brash Brit has intimated via his Tweeter account that the fight will go ahead as planned.

Per ESPN.co.uk:

“Slash!! Head but from yesterday’s training, 6 stitches, no big deal, still 8 weeks out,” Bisping tweeted.

The aforementioned tweet must come as welcome news to the UFC hierarchy, who have recently had to deal with unforeseen injuries to both Rory MacDonald and Josh Koscheck.

MacDonald suffered an almost identical injury to Bisping’s. His was a huge gash to the forehead, which was deemed bad enough to throw a spanner in the works of his projected UFC 152 clash with two-divisional titlist B.J. Penn.

Conversely, “Kos” was meant to throw hands with Jake Ellenberger in the co-main event of UFC 151: Jon Jones vs. Dan Henderson. However, due to a bulging disc in his back, the former AKA resident had to pull out. The 34-year-old has now been supplanted by Jay Hieron.

For “The Thoroughbred,” this will be his third stint in the company.

Apropos Bisping (22-4 MMA, 12-4 UFC), at UFC 152, he will once again attempt to stake his claim as the most viable opponent to face off against perennial middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva.

Others in the race include Chris Weidman, Vitor Belfort, Stann, Tim Boetsch and Alan Belcher.

Just over six months ago, Bisping’s chances of vying for a tilt at UFC gold were thwarted by Chael Sonnen, who then went on to unsuccessfully challenge “The Spider” for the second time of asking.

UFC 152 is scheduled to take place on September 22, 2012 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Canada.

Dan Henderson Looking Forward to Possible Title Clash with Lyoto Machida

By all intents and purposes, Dan Henderson is by no means looking past his UFC 151 encounter with current 205-pound king Jon Jones, but the thought of a potential throwdown with Lyoto Machida is a mouth-watering prospect that looms ever so large at the back of his mind. (Via Fiveouncesofpain.com), Henderson told “FUEL TV”:

He’s a guy that I’ve always watched over the years. He’s gotten to grow on me a little bit. Early on he was pretty boring, never engaged and just waited and waited and waited and waited until it was time to catch a guy with one punch. It’s also a guy that would be fun to figure out. It’s a different type of guy with a different style that you usually don’t find. Those fights change it up for me and make it a little funner. He’s a guy you got to stay in his face.

UFC on FOX 4 saw “The Dragon” elevate himself into title contention once more following his second-round knockout of Ryan Bader. As things stand, barring any unforeseen circumstances, Machida’s third shot at UFC gold is etched in stone.

Prior to the aforementioned bout, UFC President Dana White had confirmed that the most impressive victor between headline acts Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Brandon Vera and co-main eventers Machida and Bader would be given the next title tilt.

Although Rua won his match via fourth-round technical knockout, the spoils went to Machida.

Heading into his match with Bader, the Brazilian denizen had amassed one win in his last four outings, and even worse was the fact that he’d lost his last fight. So for Machida, his win must’ve been a godsend.

As referenced to earlier, Henderson isn’t counting his chickens, as he’s well aware of the task that lies ahead regarding “Bones” Jones.

It’s definitely a big fight, but my last few have been big. My conditioning feels great and obviously tactically in this one as it’s a little different because he’s a little longer and my game plan changes with each opponent. I’ve got a couple of real long, tall guys to train with, so I feel good now.

Come fight night, if “Hendo” is triumphant, he’ll add the UFC light heavyweight crown to his other trio of titles which include the Strikeforce 205-pound belt, PRIDE middleweight and welterweight titles.

Chad “Money” Mendes is apparently wanted for questioning by Hanford, Calif. local authorities following a 40-man brawl at Lacey Inn Bar where it was alleged Mendes blind-sided a punter, leaving his victim bruised.

Reported by the Hanford Sentinel (via BloodyElbow.com):

Mendes, 27, allegedly sucker punched a patron in the face and took off running out the back door. Officials say they have not been able to locate him.

[After breaking up a different fight] authorities recognized Mendes. He appeared to be intoxicated and began cursing at the deputies and officers, authorities said. They asked him to leave. Instead, he went back inside and struck one man who “never even saw him coming,” Assistant Sheriff Dave Putnam said.

As of yet, it’s not known whether or not his victim was an innocent bystander or part of the fracas.

“The victim felt lucky to walk out with just a contusion after being punched by Mendes,” Putnam said.

Thus far, Mendes has failed to make contact with the Hanford authorities, and as a consequence, a warrant for his arrest could be forthcoming.

“If we don’t speak with him by Monday, then we’ll request that the District Attorney’s Office file charges against him,” Putnam said. “Then we can pick him up on an arrest warrant.”

Although Mendes is being sought after, at this moment in time, said allegations have yet to be substantiated.

However, if it turns out he was in fact the perpetrator of the crime, because of his mixed martial arts background, the assumption is that he could be looking at a hefty fine or even worse, jail time.

“With his training as a professional fighter, he could be looking at a charge of assault with a deadly weapon,” Putnam said. “That’s something the District Attorney’s Office will have to weigh out when they make their filing decision.”

Mendes’ (12-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) last outing was a 31-second blitzing of Cody McKenzie back at UFC 148.

Prior to the aforementioned  fight, the 145-pounder suffered an opening stanza knockout to current UFC featherweight titlist Jose “Scarface” Aldo in the main event of UFC 142, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Tito Ortiz Says He Could’ve Beaten Jon Jones

Even in retirement, MMA legend and UFC Hall of Famer Tito Ortiz is still outspoken. “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” believes he could’ve beaten 205-pound champ Jon “Bones” Jones if not for the catalogue of injuries he sustained during his storied career. Via MMAMania.com, Ortiz “MMA Uncensored Live”:

“One hundred percent. For sure, I would have. I’d be beating Jon Jones, right now. I’d be beating everybody else that I’ve fought, up to this point. I still might have been 19-2.”

Ortiz was also asked as to whether he would’ve defeated the phenom Jones during the height of his powers.

In unwavering fashion he candidly reiterated his earlier boast.

“100 percent. What do you think I’m gonna say, no? I was the champion. I was dominant. Jon Jones tried to beat my record. I would have beaten Jon Jones.”

At present, Ortiz holds the record for most consecutive title defenses in the UFC’s 205-pound class—five.

However, Jones is hot on his heels with three successful defenses already in the bag and a possible fourth on the way if he can get past Dan Henderson at UFC 151.

Ortiz made his curtain call at UFC 148, though it wasn’t the best of leaving parties, as he lost a rubber match to Forrest Griffin.

Ortiz’s career has been blighted with numerous injuries and as well as extensive surgeries, and as a consequence, the ground-and-pound specialist is adamant that no amount of cajoling will force him out of retirement.

Prior to the Forrest fight, I had 50-percent of my meniscus taken out. During the fight, I guess I re-tore the ACL in my right knee. So, I’m looking to get ACL replacement on my right knee. I had a neck problem, no one knew about it. But, I’m possibly getting neck surgery, again. This is why I’m retired. I’m sick of getting surgeries, man.

I’m done. I’ve done what I wanted to do in mixed martial arts. I’ve got to this point in my career. Fifteen years, I thought, was good enough for me. I defended my light heavyweight title five consecutive times. I’ve done what I wanted to do. It was about money. I made my business, I needed it for what I wanted to do. I’m done. I’m content where I am and to work on the business side of it. I don’t have the hunger for it, anymore. I’m sick of getting surgeries.

That being said, it seems the 37-year-old Santa Ana-native is wholly content with retirement as he can now focus more on his family and growing businesses.

It’s everything that I expected it to be — fishing, enjoying life, it’s been a great time with my family, me and Jenna, all of my kids, doing my clothing, Punishment Athletics, my nutrition and my gyms. I’m just working hard on the business aspect of it. Instead of my brawn, now it’s time to use my brain. Thank God I went to college!

Over the course of his career, Ortiz (16-11-1MMA, 15-11-1 UFC) was involved in some epic battles, which included a treble victory against Ken Shamrock and two defeats to Chuck Liddell.

Nevertheless, he leaves the MMA stage having amassed just one win in his last nine outings.
