One featherweight in dire need of a win will take over for another in similar standing.

Nam Phan will look to end a two-fight losing streak in the UFC when he steps in as a replacement to face
Matt Grice at UFC 136 on Oct. 8 in Houston, Texas, the UFC has announced.

Grice’s originally scheduled opponent Josh Grispi recently withdrew from the preliminary bout. Entering the UFC earlier this year as a No. 1 contender for Jose Aldo‘s belt, Grispi has since lost both his UFC fights to Dustin Poirier and George Roop.

Phan (16-9) is looking to hold onto his spot on the roster after falling to Leonard Garcia in a highly controversial decision and losing last weekend against Mike Brown. He’s a mainstay in the California MMA scene and is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu standout.

Grice (13-4) returned to the UFC in June and lost via first-round TKO to Ricardo Lamas. In his previous stint with the UFC, Grice compiled a 1-3 record from April 2007 through July 2009. This UFC 136 fight will be the former University of Oklahoma wrestler’s second try at 145 pounds.

UFC 136 features a stacked card with two championships on the line; Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard and Jose Aldo vs. Kenny Florian. The main card will also be filled out by Chael Sonnen vs. Brian Stann, Mike Russow vs. Dave Herman and Melvin Guillard vs. Joe Lauzon.

Jorge Lopez, a Muay Thai and MMA trainer at Wanderlei Silva‘s Wand Fight Team in Las Vegas, will make his UFC debut on the undercard of UFC Fight Night 25 on Sept. 17 in New Orleans.

“Wandsports gonna have his first fighter In the UFC!” Silva tweeted Friday morning. “Jorge Lopez received the contract yesterday and is now a UFC fighter. My future champion.”

Standing across the cage from Lopez in the welterweight’s UFC debut will be The Ultimate Fighter 13 contestant Justin Edwards.

At only 22 years of age, Lopez already holds a professional MMA record of 11-1. Fighting primarily in California, Utah and Las Vegas, he has compiled wins over Brett Cooper, Waachiim Spiritwolf and David Marshall.

Edwards (6-1), out of Team Jorge Gurgel in Cincinnati, lost a split decision to Clay Harvison in his UFC debut last June at the TUF 13 Finale. On the show, Edwards was knocked out by an upkick in the opening round by eventual season winner Tony Ferguson.

UFC Fight Night 25, also titled “Battle at the Bayou,” is headlined by Jake Shields vs. Jake Ellenberger in a welterweight bout. The other televised bouts on the Spike TV card will be Court McGee vs. Dongi Yang, Jonathan Brookins vs. Erik Koch and Alan Belcher vs. Jason MacDonald.

Coming off a quarterfinal exit in Bellator‘s most recent welterweight tournament, “Judo” Jim Wallhead will return to the U.K. circuit as a replacement to face Frank Trigg at BAMMA 7 on Sept. 10 in Birmingham.

Tom Watson, who had been scheduled to face Trigg, was forced to withdraw due to a back injury.

Wallhead (21-6), who trains out of Team Rough House with the likes of Dan Hardy, Paul Daley and Ross Pearson, won his Bellator debut in October, but earlier this year had an eight-fight win streak snapped by tournament runner-up Rick Hawn. Prior to Bellator, the judo black belt was a reserve on The Ultimate Fighter 9, but never received the call up.

Trigg (21-8) made his BAMMA debut in May, stopping John Phillips in the first round. Trigg, 39, has won back-to-back fights since his release from the UFC last year.

Also on the BAMMA 7 card are: Leonardo Santos vs. Rob Sinclair, Efrain Escudero vs. Tim Radcliffe and Matt Ewin vs. Valentino Petrescu.
