Believing that illegal elbows influenced the outcome of his fight Saturday, UFC heavyweight James McSweeney will look to appeal his loss to Travis Browne at The Ultimate Fighter 11 Finale card in Las Vegas.

McSweeney’s manager Lex McMahon told MMAFighting.com Monday that they will file a formal request with the Nevada state athletic commission to have the loss overturned.

“James was doing very well in the fight until he got hit with a totally legal and fair shot by Travis that put him down,” McMahon said. “Once Travis got on top of him, he landed several blows that were elbows to the back of the head — well beyond what the referee came and told us was the acceptable zone, which was anything that was two knuckles past the ear.”

The Ultimate Fighter 11 finalists Court McGee and Kris McCray spoke in defense of fellow cast member Jamie Yager Wednesday afternoon during a conference call promoting Saturday’s live finale.

While Team Punishment’s Yager was nowhere on the level of Junie Browning villainy on the show, the talkative, afro-sporting 26-year-old out of Pasadena, Calif. was this season’s controversial figure, often portrayed as confrontational and brash.

“They made Jamie way worse than he actually was,” said McGee of Team Liddell. “Way worse.”

Chael Sonnen plans to withdraw from the Oregon senate race, according to statements made Tuesday and reported by FIGHT! Magazine.

Running unopposed last month, Sonnen won the Republican primaries in Oregon’s House District 37, earning him a bid for an Oregon House of Representatives seat against Democratic nominee Will Rasmussen in the general elections this November.

According to Sonnen, the resignation was not due to his his preparations for a title shot against Anderson Silva at UFC 117 in August, nor was it because of recent controversy stemming from his “fake” Twitter account, but instead, a “legal issue.”
