UFC on Fox 11 got off to a good start on Saturday evening, as the card in Orlando, Florida featured some great preliminary action. From stars like Khabib Nurmagomedov and Thiago Alves to up-and-coming talent like Derrick Lewis and Mirsad Bektic, the prelims had everything.

Often, the prelims introduce fans to new talent, showing off the future stars of the company. That is exactly what happened in Orlando, as many of the athletes on the undercard were looking to make a name for themselves in the UFC.

So, whose performances from the prelims really stood out? Let’s take a look right now.

Derrick Lewis

The heavyweight division is in desperate need of some new faces and talent. Derrick Lewis proved on Saturday that he fits the bill, as “The Black Beast” looked ferocious in his Round 1 TKO of Jack May.

Outsized by five inches and in an uncomfortable situation, Lewis made sure he would not be denied a win in his UFC debut. The hulking heavyweight escaped a full mount from May, turned him on his back and launched off some nasty ground-and-pound strikes.

May took too many power shots, and the ref had to step in to stop the fight. Lewis gave viewers a glimpse of how powerful, violent and ferocious he is, as well as a peek at how the heavyweight division might have a star in the near future.

Ray Borg

Ray Borg lost his UFC debut to Dustin Ortiz. That being said, many folks scored the bout in his favor, and it was an early contender for Fight of the Night.

Borg, who sports the odd but fun nickname of “Tazmexican Devil,” showed off some awesome takedowns, great transitions and good submissions against Ortiz. He did so against a seasoned MMA and UFC veteran, and his last fight was just two weeks ago.

He has all of a sudden become a fighter to watch at 125 pounds. He has a bright future, is exciting to watch and gained a ton of fans on Saturday with his debut showing.

Alex White

Filling in on late notice for former WEC champion Mike Brown, Alex White had an uphill battle. It was no problem, though, as he stayed undefeated in his drubbing of Estevan Payan.

White had a decent amount of hype coming into this fight, as he was not only undefeated as a pro but as an amateur as well. He showed the hype was warranted, putting Payan down hard with a solid straight punch to the chops and some nasty follow-up ground-and-pound.

That win will earn him some attention from the rest of the featherweight division. He showed he has power, technique and a good amount of potential.

Jorge Masvidal

I am sorry for doubting you, Jorge Masvidal. I really am. You proved me wrong against Pat Healy Saturday evening.

His prelim fight against Healy saw him throw accurate, punishing strikes to his opponent’s head and body. Every blow looked like it could have put away Healy, who deserves props for taking those shots like a champion.

Masvidal also displayed his counter-wrestling. Healy wanted to grind away Masvidal, but the Florida native rejected him with prejudice.

Masvidal has quickly become a dark horse at the top end of 155 pounds. If he continues fighting like this, he could end up creeping into the Top 15 soon.

Khabib Nurmagomedov

Ladies and gentlemen, I think we know who is the next man in line for a lightweight title shot after Gilbert Melendez.

Khabib Nurmagomedov extended his record to 22-0 versus a very game Rafael dos Anjos. He used relentless aggression, crafty takedowns and nasty ground-and-pound to completely outclass the Brazilian.

He has one of the longest winning streaks in MMA. His UFC resume gives him precedent to claim a title shot in the near future.

UFC on Fox 11 is coming at you with wicked speed, building off The Ultimate Fighter Nations finale.

The main event, which has potential contenders Travis Browne and Fabricio Werdum squaring off, makes a ton of sense. The winner of this fight will challenge Cain Velasquez for the grandest prize in MMA.

As always, Bleacher Report has assembled its team of predictors to give you some insight on the main card and whom to pick. As always, those men are Scott Harris, Craig Amos, Sean Smith, James MacDonald and me, Riley Kontek.

Let’s not wait any longer. Here are our predictions for this card.

The Ultimate Fighter Nations Finale is complete. Round 2 of the UFC’s events this week comes to you live Saturday in the form of UFC on Fox 11.

Headlined by top contenders Travis Browne and Fabricio Werdum, the card is completely stacked from top to bottom. Names such as Miesha Tate, Donald Cerrone, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Rafael dos Anjos reside on the card, which could result in some great fights and important moments in their respective divisions.

My underdog picks did not pan out in the last event. However, I will take a 5-3 record on that undercard, as it continues to improve my record slightly.

With that, let’s take a look at the preliminary card fights and make some predictions.

2014 Riley’s Record: 41-31

Last Event: TUF Nations Finale (5-3)

The Ultimate Fighter Nations Finale went down Wednesday night. Now it’s time for the second UFC event this week.

UFC on Fox, headlined by heavyweight contenders Travis Browne and Fabricio Werdum, takes place live Saturday from Orlando. The winner of this bout could be the next man to face champion Cain Velasquez.

Not only that, but there are numerous other bouts with fighters in contention for a title shot. Rafael dos Anjos and Khabib Nurmagomedov are right there in the title picture, as is Yoel Romero if he earns another impressive victory.

Let’s first look at the bonuses, though, and see who could be in the running for an extra bit of cash for their effort.

Performance of the Night No. 1: Thiago Alves

Thiago Alves hasn’t fought in the Octagon for a long time. I mean it—it’s been around two years since the Brazilian has competed.

That being said, he should be well rested. He also has a favorable matchup in Seth Baczynski, who is tough as nails but probably not on the level of Alves.

Alves is a lethal striker and tough to beat. He will use his insane muay thai skill to beat up “The Polish Pistola” and put him away. That will earn him a nice little payday.

Also in the running: Travis Browne, Khabib Nurmagomedov

Performance of the Night No. 2: Donald Cerrone

When people look at the Donald Cerrone-Edson Barboza matchup, they see a fun striking battle in the making. I also see that, but I also see a balanced game plan by Cerrone that will earn him the win.

Cerrone is vastly superior on the ground to Barboza. He has tapped black belts in the past, just showing how skilled he is.

So, after a bout that sees some fun moments on the feet, Cerrone will get Barboza on the ground and outwork him. The tapout will prove to be very lucrative.

Also in the running: Ray Borg, Pat Healy

Fight of the Night: Donald Cerrone-Edson Barboza

That’s right: Donald Cerrone will double up bonuses at UFC on Fox 11. You heard it from me first.

Cerrone and Barboza are both nasty strikers. They will enjoy a good technical kickboxing match on the feet, which will get fans excited.

It will be so entertaining that Dana White will tweet about it and then give them the Fight of the Night bonus.

Seriously, that’s exactly how I predict it will go down.

Also in the running: Yoel Romero-Brad Tavares, Jordan Mein-Hernani Perpetuo, Dustin Ortiz-Ray Borg

TUF Nations Finale: Recapping the Fight Night Bonuses

The Ultimate Fighter Nations Finale went down Wednesday night, and it was full of great fights and impressive finishes. It was a great surprise for fight fans, who did not hold the event in high regard coming into the night.

The event saw some significant happenings. Two Canadian fighters were crowned the newest Ultimate Fighter champions in Elias Theodorou and Chad Laprise. Not only that, but after a fun, back-and-forth fight in the main event, Tim Kennedy took a unanimous decision over the favored Michael Bisping.

From this fight card, we got two Performance of the Night winners and two Fight of the Night winners. Let’s recap those bonuses and examine their legitimacy.

Performance of the Night No. 1: Ryan Jimmo

Canada’s Ryan Jimmo was the only home countryman to win a bonus Wednesday night. Boy, did he earn it, too.

Jimmo, taking on gritty, late-notice brawler Sean O’Connell, found himself in a fight early, as O’Connell stood in there with the karate champion and threw leather. O’Connell landed some good shots of his own, showing he was worthy of this UFC bout.

Then it happened.

O’Connell stood in the pocket and kept throwing heat at Jimmo. However, Jimmo caught the Utah native clean with a nasty shot square in the mug and dazed O’Connell badly. A couple follow-up shots and the American was out cold.

Jimmo showed that he has power and is not always a grinder. That nasty KO earned him a nice $50,000 bonus that he can now use to get dance lessons that will allow him to add more moves to his robot arsenal.

Performance of the Night No. 2: KJ Noons

If KJ Noons didn’t get a bonus tonight, the streets would have been filled with rioters demanding he get paid. Okay, maybe not that extreme, but it would have been erroneous.

Noons took on Sam Stout in a bout that was made a welterweight fight a few days out from fight night. Perhaps Noons used that lack of weight-cutting to eat something extra-extra, as he uncorked a monster of a punch that sent Stout into night-night land.

Stout doesn’t get knocked out. However, he did Wednesday night. He was so out of it that when he came to, he shot a takedown on the ref and tried putting him in a guillotine choke.

That’s how wicked the knockout was. Noons deserves every penny of that $50,000.

Fight of the Night: Dustin Poirier vs. Akira Corassani

Coming into Wednesday night, if you told me Dustin Poirier-Akira Corassani would have been the best fight of the night, I would have laughed in your face, spit in your beer and ridiculed you to tears.

Then, you would have returned the favor after watching Wednesday’s brawl between the two and proven me wrong.

Poirier and Corassani has a crazy, back-and-forth fight for the first five minutes. The Swede hurt the American and the American hurt the Swede.

Eventually, Poirier would finish Corassani in the second round, but the Swede gave him a fight. It was an awesome fight at that.

The UFC is hitting a good, meaty part of its schedule now, as it hosts two events this week alone. The first is The Ultimate Fighter Nations: Canada vs. Australia finale, which features a main event between middleweight nemeses Michael Bisping and Tim Kennedy.

This event will also crown two new TUF winners, both of which will be represented by Canada. These fighters were coached by Patrick Cote, who will also square off in the co-main event of the night against Australia coach Kyle Noke.

Before all that, we explore the preliminary card. We had a nice bounceback courtesy of Abu Dhabi, but my record is still too close to .500 for comfort.

With that, let’s explore the preliminary card and make some predictions on the fights.
