Much like with several other events this year, Dana White was left scrambling for UFC 180.

Injuries to Cain Velasquez, Norman Parke, Diego Sanchez, Joe Lauzon and Erik Perez led to a slew of rescheduling. While the fight card wasn’t as deep as a result, the company found a way to deliver several compelling bouts.

Veterans Fabricio Werdum and Mark Hunt collided in a massive battle for the interim heavyweight title, while Jake Ellenberger vs. Kelvin Gastelum and Ricardo Lamas vs. Dennis Bermudez both had major implications at the top of their respective divisions.

Let’s take a look at how all the results unfolded in Mexico City.

After a three-week hiatus, the biggest MMA company in the world returned Saturday night with a compelling UFC 179.

The headliner featured a rematch between Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes. Aldo successfully defended his featherweight title, picking up a unanimous decision victory. Neither fighter controlled the fight for long stretches, with both enjoying fleeting moments of success.

Aldo did just enough to earn the victory. He connected with plenty of high-impact strikes on Mendes, particularly in the third round, and also avoided any dangerous situations in which the fight was close to a stoppage.

With the win, Aldo’s record grows to 25-1, while Mendes’ record drops to 16-2.

In the co-main event, Glover Teixeira and Phil Davisboth coming off losses—met in a critical battle to stay in the thick of the light heavyweight title picture. This bout also ended in a unanimous decision, with Davis coasting to the easy win. Teixeira never stood much of a chance, digging himself in an early hole and never climbing out.

According to UFC.com, Davis landed nearly 100 more strikes, which about sums up everything you need to know about the fight.

Cain Velasquez Injury: Updates on UFC Star’s Knee and Return

Cain Velasquez’s long-awaited return to the Octagon will have to once again be put on hold, as a knee injury will keep the heavyweight champ from appearing in UFC 180’s main event.

The UFC Twitter account confirmed the news, noting Fabricio Werdum’s new opponent:

This is an unfortunate development, as many were looking to see Velasquez defend his title for the first time since knocking out Junior dos Santos just over a year ago.

Alas, injuries have continually limited the 32-year-old’s time inside the cage. He already missed time in 2011 and 2012 with a knee injury, and his most recent extended absence was due to shoulder surgery.

Werdum vs. Mark Hunt should be an intriguing battle, but the main event won’t be nearly as captivating without a title on the line.

The UFC’s most recent shows have been somewhat lacking, but with UFC 178, Dana White has once again put together a stacked card.

In the five pay-per-view fights, there are nine Top 10 fighters, with the only exclusion being Eddie Alvarez, who is making his debut with the company. The most recent loss of the 10 featured fighters belongs to Donald Cerrone, but that came more than a year ago (August 2013), and he has since turned in four scintillating performances.

Every fight features compelling competitors who enter with at least two wins in a row. Every fight has important implications on the division’s title picture. And every fight has the possibility for fireworks.

Oh, and it’s taking place in the fight capital of the world, Las Vegas. Let’s take a look at how the results play out from the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

UFC Fight Night 51 may not boast a lot of high-profile fights—no titles are on the line, and there are few Top 10 fighters on the card—but that doesn’t mean the action has to suffer on Saturday night.

Look to UFC 177 from just two weeks ago for proof. Restructuring led to a fairly underwhelming card and a pretty uneven main event between Joe Soto and champ T.J. Dillashaw, but the fights were tremendous, and it turned into a thoroughly entertaining night.

With Brazil, where the atmosphere is always electric, serving as the backdrop, and an intriguing rematch between heavyweights Antonio Silva and Andrei Arlovski in the main event, there’s no reason UFC Fight Night 51 can’t at least provide some excitement.

Let’s take a look at the results as they play out from Brasilia.

There’s no denying it—a great deal of shuffling left UFC 177 underwhelming on paper.

UFC 176 was cancelled. The highly anticipated rematch between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson was pushed back. So was the co-main event between Demetrious Johnson and Chris Cariaso. Even the rematch for the UFC Bantamweight Championship between TJ Dillashaw and Renan Barao was canceled when the challenger passed out trying to make weight for the main event, according to UFC.com.

Instead, the biggest fight of the night features Dillashaw defending his title against promotional newcomer Joe Soto. While there are a handful of solid lightweight fights and an intriguing women’s battle between Bethe Correia and Shayna Baszler, this card feels worthy of a time slot on television during the week instead of a pay-per-view event.

The PPV buys are going to be down, and it’s not going to be the best show of the year, but there are still plenty of reasons to watch.

Let’s take a look at how the results play out from Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, California, on Saturday.
