The UFC and Fox are slowly starting to make changes, as the first full year of their partnership winds to a close. One of the first adjustments they’ve made has been moving the UFC on Fox preliminary card to FX.

While the prelims for Fox events were doing fine on Fuel TV, the cards always felt a little less important than their PPV counterparts that had a lead-in from FX, a problem the UFC will try to solve starting this weekend.

With a three-hour, six-fight lead-in to the stacked main card on Fox, the prelims on FX should set up an epic night of fights, and feature a few awesome matchups of their own.

UFC on Fuel 7: 5 English Fighters to Book for the UFC’s Return to London

After an almost overwhelming 29 events in 2012, the UFC won’t be slowing down in the New Year. With two events in January and the first PPV of the year in UFC 156 before it, UFC on Fuel 7 will be the fourth UFC event in under 30 days by the time …

After an almost overwhelming 29 events in 2012, the UFC won’t be slowing down in the New Year.

With two events in January and the first PPV of the year in UFC 156 before it, UFC on Fuel 7 will be the fourth UFC event in under 30 days by the time the Octagon returns to England on February 16th. The overseas card has a chance to kick off the UFC’s Fuel lineup in a big way next year.

English UFC fans have had to deal with a lot of disappointments over the last few years, with the number of visits by the world’s premier MMA organization slowly declining along with the quality of fights. Unfortunately, the London fans are going to get another low-profile Fuel card for their first taste of UFC action next year.

While it’s unlikely that the Zuffa brass will throw any sort of high profile fight on the card, the UFC roster has a solid amount of talented English fighters they’ll be able to showcase early next year, and at the very least the fans at Wembley Arena will have a few natives to cheer on at UFC on Fuel 7.

After seven years in the MMA game and almost 30 years in combat sports, Strikeforce will hold its final event in early 2013.

It didn’t take long for the Scott Coker-run organization to fold after being purchased by the UFC’s parent company Zuffa LLC, and after the final two Strikeforce events of 2012 were cancelled, it was only a matter of time before Zuffa and Showtime pulled the plug.

With one last chance to make an impression in the MMA world, the organization attempted to pull out all the stops and feature all three of their male champions, plus the winner of the biggest tournament in Strikeforce history on the card.

However, nothing ever seems to go completely right for Scott Coker and Co., and with two months to go the card has already taken a major hit by losing lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez.

Even without Melendez, this card is must see television for MMA fans with talented fighters like Luke Rockhold, Nate Marquardt and Daniel Cormier all slated to compete, and it looks like Strikeforce is making sure their last event will be their biggest.

The UFC made its final trip to Canada of the year for UFC 154, and the most popular Canadian fighter in the world proved why he’s also one of the most dominant.

Georges St-Pierre fought five hard rounds against Carlos Condit, using his wrestling and top control to dominate the majority of the fight, but it was a third-round head kick from Condit the provided the most exciting moment of Saturday night.

The strike caught St-Pierre unaware and sent him falling to the mat, and Condit showed the finishing instincts that earned him the nickname “Natural Born Killer.”

However, the champion would survive and St-Pierre ended up reversing the position and turning the fight back in his favor.

With the win over Condit, St-Pierre just added another title defense on his already incredible resume, but after getting himself into trouble for the first time in years, GSP showed a vulnerability that we aren’t used to seeing from the champion.

UFC 154 gave us a memorable title fight and a new appreciation for St-Pierre, but every fight card features fighters either climbing the ranks or slowly descending down the list of title contenders; this post-fight stock report covers the entire UFC 154 main card.

It wasn’t pretty, but Francis Carmont earned himself a win at UFC 154.

Carmont was on the winning end of an extremely controversial decision against Tom Lawlor, but his performance was unimpressive whether he won or lost.

The amount of hype that surrounded Carmont heading into the bout with Lawlor is likely going to cut in half the next time he steps inside the cage, but one bad fight isn’t going to kill Carmont’s progress up the middleweight ladder.

He should find himself in the cage with another small bump in competition very soon.

With the middleweight division deeper than it has been in years, there are plenty of good fighters to help Carmont climb the ladder towards the upper echelon.

GSP is back.

In what was undoubtedly the toughest fight of his current title run, Georges St-Pierre found a way to control a very game Carlos Condit for the majority of the bout en route to a unanimous decision victory at UFC 154.

There were a lot of questions surrounding the champion heading into this fight, mainly focused on his long layoff and the knee injury that forced the time away from the cage, but St-Pierre answered all of those questions convincingly during his win over Condit.

Both fighters proved they are among the very best in the sport last night, and over the course of their 25-minute bout we gained quite a bit of knowledge to keep in mind when both men appear inside the Octagon again.
