Aldo’s Coach Predicts Diaz Will Beat McGregor Again, Talks Aldo-Edgar II
Jose Aldo’s longtime coach Andre Pederneiras recently addressed his fighter competing for an interim title against Frankie Edgar at UFC 200 instead of fighting Conor McGregor in a rematch for the undisputed title, as well as his thoughts on McGregor’s upcoming 170-pound rematch against Nate Diaz.
According to Pederneiras, he and Aldo were expecting the rematch with McGregor as their next fight, but because things didn’t work out that way, they will simply prepare to win the interim title and challenge McGregor to unify the belts in their next fight.
“We were expecting the fight with Conor fight, but we can’t live to mourn,” Aldo’s coach and manager Andre Pederneiras told MMAFighting.com. “Aldo has a date and a fight booked, and it’s for the interim belt, so let’s work to win this title and fight Conor again.”
Regarding the interim title fight at UFC 200 against Edgar, which will be a rematch for Aldo of a fight he won the first time around, Pederneiras admits that both Aldo and Edgar are completely different fighters compared to the ones who fought each other at UFC 156.
“Both fighters have evolved a lot (since UFC 156),” he said. “It’s going to be interesting to see how they both prepare for each other in this new fight.”
As far as the 170-pound rematch between McGregor and Diaz, Pederneiras doesn’t appear to like “The Notorious” one’s chances.
“About Conor vs. Diaz, I don’t have much to say. The UFC owners know the reasons (why it’s happening) and I can’t say anything about that because I have a business too and I do what has to be done so my company brings me the biggest profit possible.”
“(It will be) tougher than the first one,” he said when asked how McGregor will do against Diaz the second time around. “I think Conor will control more his impulse to get the knockout so he doesn’t gas again, but even if he wins, which I don’t think will happen, he’s way smaller than the athletes in this division, and I’m not even talking about the champion. For an example, a fight between him and Demian (Maia), who is a big guy for the division since he came from 185 pounds, Conor’s chances at defeating guys in this division are really low.”
