Alexander Gustafsson calls for rescheduled Jon Jones fight: ‘It was my fight to begin with’

After news broke that Daniel Cormier will still be guaranteed his light heavyweight title shot against Jon Jones early next year, injured No. 1 contender Alexander Gustafsson took to Facebook to discuss how he felt about the UFC’s decision.

I just heard the news that Jones is injured and the fight is rescheduled to January 3????
Until then, I will be more than ready, it was MY fight to begin with and I WANT the fight as the number 1 contender.
End of story!!

Jones suffered a torn meniscus and an ankle injury in training recently, causing the UFC 178 match against Cormier to be pushed back until January 3, 2015. Gustafsson initially opened the door for Cormier to replace him against Jones when he suffered a torn meniscus in his knee last month.
