Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey is ready to make her highly-anticipated mixed martial arts (MMA) return to the UFC’s Octagon, after having suffered her first professional defeat to Holly Holm last year, when she takes on current women’s 135-pound champ Amanda Nunes in the main event of UFC 207 in December.

After suffering a nasty second round knockout loss to Holm in the main event of UFC 193 via head-kick, Rousey would retreat into the shadows away from the media for quite some time before admitting she had suicidal thoughts after the traumatic defeat. With Rousey out of the picture the title found itself changing hands two more times as Miesha Tate would defeat Holm for the title at UFC 196, before dropping the strap to Nunes in the main event of UFC 200 in July.

Now Rousey is ready to return and will get her immediate title opportunity as promised by UFC President Dana White, when she takes on the heavy-handed Brazilian champ Nunes in the main event of UFC 207 in Las Vegas. Nunes was recently interviewed by MMA Mania’s Nicdali Rivera-Calanoc ahead of the contest, who stated that she has been training for a bout with Rousey since coming into the UFC in 2013:

“I didn’t really think anything. I wanted to see her face when it gets real. And that was the moment, it was a big moment for me. I am very confident and I know I am going to take this fight. And that moment was amazing. I don’t know how to explain it. Ever since I got into the UFC, I always thought about that fight.

“Even if I have another opponent, after I finished that fight, I trained for Ronda Rousey. At the time she was the champion; now I’m the champion and she’s the challenger. How crazy is this? Ronda is really tough. But I know if I put my game, I will take this fight. We know everything Ronda brings. I know everything. I have a breakdown of Rousey I watch everyday. I know everything she does good and bad. I will take this fight.”

Nunes is looking to make her first career title defense coming off of her dominant title win over Tate in the main event of UFC 200 in July, in which ‘The Lioness’ downed ‘Cupcake’ in the first round with a nasty barrage of strikes before locking in a rear-naked choke for the win. If Nunes is able to emerge victorious against Rousey come fight night in ‘Sin City’, it would undoubtedly be the biggest win in her MMA career.

Nunes and Rousey will meet in the main event of UFC 207 for the women’s bantamweight title live on pay-per-view (PPV), from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 30, 2016.
