After former longtime UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre announced today (October 17, 2016) on The MMA Hour that he had terminated his contract with the promotion and that he was now a free agent, ONE 170-pound champion Ben Askren took to his official Twitter account to call out the Canadian star:
Hey @GeorgesStPierre not a lot of people to fight outside the UFC. I’ll be your huckleberry!!!

St. Pierre, who hasn’t competed since 2013, was rumored to be making his long awaited return at December 10’s UFC 206 from Toronto, but apparently negotiations have taken an unexpected turn.
Askren, on the other hand, has long been considered to be the very best welterweight competing outside of the UFC, but he does boast an impressive resume. A former Bellator champion as well as a former Olympian, “Funky” holds a near perfect 15-0-1 record. In fact, he feels as if he would match up quite well with “Rush”:
Sometimes you gotta do sport for the sake of the sport. I’ve always said I’m a bad match up for @GeorgesStPierre https://t.co/1iv1YXlBu8

St. Pierre has long been an advocate for stricter drug testing and he’s made it clear that he’s in favor of the UFC’s fairly new deal with USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency), a third party testing organization. Not every promotion has a deal like this set in stone, but Askren even went as far to say that he’d be open to being tested by USADA in order to fight St. Pierre:
Ill do USADA any day the week holler at me https://t.co/XUD5XM4cV5

Do you see this fight ever taking place, and on a broader note, do you ever see GSP even competing outside of the UFC?
