Brock Lesnar has quickly responded after UFC kingpin Jon Jones called him out.
After his UFC 214 third-round stoppage of Daniel Cormier on Saturday, Jones said, “Brock Lesnar, if you want to know what it feels like to get your ass kicked by a guy who weighs 40 pounds less than you, meet me in the Octagon.”
Per the Associated Press’ Greg Beacham, Lesnar responded, saying, “Be careful what you wish for, young man.”
Lesnar, 40, remains one of the biggest draws in MMA, and a bout with Jones, 30, would have UFC fans excited.
Bleacher Report’s Chad Dundas wrote this of the potential fight: “I’d cautiously pick Jones, based on age, athleticism and all-around skill set. But if you told me Lesnar wound up being too damn big, I’d believe that too.”
Jones added, per Beacham: “We’re serious about it, and it would be great for the MMA world. It would bring more of the general public to mixed martial arts, and that’s what we need. We need to expand our sport, so why not be the guy to take part in that?”
B/R’s Jonathan Snowden reasoned:
“Jones had fought some of the best wrestlers in UFC history before stepping into the cage with Cormier.
“Ryan Bader, Matt Hamill, Chael Sonnen and Vladimir Matyushenko all fell way short. None of them even looked remotely competitive against Jones. He didn’t just fend off their feeble attempts; he took each wrestler down, bruising pride while also bruising bodies by beating them at their own game.
“But there’s a difference between those men and Lesnar: 50 pounds of muscle.”
One thing’s certain: This fight would appeal to a wide range of fight fans.
