Brock Lesnar‘s sudden retirement from MMA after his loss to Alistair Overeem at UFC 141 stunned many MMA fans. It now appears Lesnar won’t be retired for very much longer.
According to Mike Sawyer, who goes by the Twitter handle @TOUGHTALKMMA, Lesnar will be returning to the Octagon in 2012.
“Had an interesting conversation with someone VERY close to all the Brock Lesnar stuff. He is fighting THIS YEAR in UFC & not Frank Mir…”
Now, take this for what it is worth. According to Mike Sawyer’s Twitter profile he is the co-owner of Las Vegas Nutrition and the co-host of Tough Talk MMA on WrestlingObserver.com.
The idea that Lesnar is coming back is surely not going to surprise many people. It was most likely another case of a fighter disheartened after a big loss making an irrational decision.
Lesnar appeared to already have one foot back in the WWE, but instead of announcing his retirement he should have just said he was going to take some time to reflect on his future.
Then again, who am I to tell Lesnar what he’s supposed to do.
The other angle on Sawyer’s Tweet is not only did he state Lesnar is coming back, he also specified a time frame (2012), as well as eliminated one opponent (Frank Mir).
If not Mir, then who? Might the UFC set up a rematch between Lesnar and Overeem to take place when Overeem’s suspension ends in late December? After all, many Lesnar fans consider Overeem’s win to be tainted because he has since been suspended for a failed drug test.
With the recent injury problems the UFC has faced, the organization could certainly use the buzz Lesnar creates to follow up their big UFC 148 card.
