The UFC needs Brock Lesnar to return to being the “baddest man on the planet,” and the only way for him to do so is to knock out Alistair Overeem in UFC 141.
Overeem is on the verge of breaking into stardom. While he could still grab hold of the heavyweight division, the UFC needs Lesnar to be successful far more than it needs Overeem to be.
There is a certain mystique about Lesnar that Overeem simply doesn’t have. Whether it’s the giant sword on his chest, his showmanship or his pro wrestling background, Overeem simply doesn’t pack the same draw that Lesnar does.
We all saw the frenzy Kimbo Slice created by joining the UFC, and he didn’t have nearly the talent that Lesnar had inside the Octagon.
Lesnar has the perfect combination of being a household name and lethal talent. As long as his health issues don’t bar him from fighting, he’s got the power to dominate the heavyweight division and be the star UFC needs atop the heavyweight division.
Overeem is arguably the better fighter in this matchup, but UFC needs Lesnar to knock him out in resounding fashion.
Lesnar may be 34, but his intimidating presence and appeal amongst the masses is required for UFC to be at its best. He’s good for exposure, he performs in the ring and this fight gives him the perfect opportunity to reestablish himself as one of the most feared humans on the face of the earth.
