There’s a mean streak in Rory MacDonald, one that has earned him the nickname “Canadian Psycho,” which his forthcoming opponent Carlos Condit thinks is anything but an act.
Condit was talking to Ariel Helwani on his MMA Hour podcast (h/t MMA Fighting), when he was asked about MacDonald publicly proclaiming on Twitter and in interviews his desire to do untold damage to and cause embarrassment in all of his opponents.
“I’ve felt that vibe being around him the last couple of years. I think it’s pretty legit. I think he’s genuine,” Condit said.
The two men are scheduled to meet at UFC 158 on March 16 in Montreal. They’ll be meeting for the second time after Condit made MacDonald taste defeat for the first time in his young career in 2010.
That defeat stuck deep in the Canadian’s throat, and he was quick to call out his nemesis after defeating BJ Penn last December.
Condit had just lost to Georges St-Pierre in a title match when MacDonald described how he’d been “humiliated” and “embarrassed” by his loss to Condit in the post-fight interview.
Some would think such a serious attitude is almost pathological, but Condit doesn’t think MacDonald is crazy.
“I think it’s a fine line, right?” Condit said. “I don’t know. He’s a young guy and he’s trying to figure out who he is. I think we all go through that. I don’t really pay too much mind to that. My concern is the guy, the fighter that I am meeting in the cage.”
The pair will meet at Montreal’s Bell Centre where Georges St-Pierre’s title defence against Nick Diaz will headline the card.
