Welterweights Carlos ‘The Natural Born Killer’ Condit (28-7) and Martin ‘The Hitman’ Kampmann (20-6) are set to square off in a rematch in the main event of UFC on FOX Sports 1: 2 at the end of August.
The two were named as the headliners on Friday evening by FOXSports.com.
UFC on FOX Sports 1: Condit vs. Kampmann II is expected to take place on August 28, 2013 at the BAnkers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. The two will square off in the main event on Fox Sports 1 television.
Kampmann won their first meeting back in April 2009 in the main event of UFN 18 by split decision.
“He’s going to have his rematch,” Kampmann told FOXSports.com. “It’s going to be a different fight. I’m a different fighter. He’s a different fighter. We had a good scrap last time, and this time it’ll be five rounds. That’ll give me plenty of time to get the finish.”
‘The Hitman’ saw a three fight win streak end at the hands of No. 1 contender Johny Hendricks last November losing in just 46-seconds by knockout. Kampann’s previous wins include a KO finish of Jake Ellenberger at the TUF 15 Finale, a submission of Thiago Alves at UFC on FX 2 and a decision against Rick Story at UFC 139.
Like his opponent Condit also suffered a loss to Hendricks in his last fight, losing by decision this past March at UFC 158 in the events “Fight of the Night” winning bout. The defeat was Condit’s second straight after a loss to champ Georges St-Pierre at UFC 154 in November 2012. That bout also earned ‘The Natural Born Killer’ a “Fight of the Night” bonus.
