Double champ Henry Cejudo does not think things will go down smoothly for Jose Aldo at bantamweight.
From one champion to another, Henry Cejudo does not think Jose Aldo’s trip to the bantamweight division will end well. Paired up to take on former title challenger Marlon Moraes at UFC 245, the former featherweight king is just a couple of days away from his 135 debut, and claims to be in the best shape of his UFC career. But, ‘Triple C’ sees it differently.
In an interview with Combate, Cejudo made it clear he is not sold on Aldo making it all the way to bantamweight in a healthy manner, and thinks the Brazilian will be too drained from the process in order to have a good showing on Saturday night. That could be extremely dangerous when taking on a knockout artists such as Marlon Moraes.
“Aldo is going to lose a lot of weight, that’s a problem he will have. I think Marlon will knock him out. Marlon is a really strong guy at 135, he’s very dangerous. Aldo is going to shed a lot of weight, and that is going to hurt him. I think Marlon will knock him out in the first or second round. Marlon is a different animal.”
However, should Jose prove Cejudo and his doubters wrong, Henry would not turn down an immediate title fight against Aldo. For the ‘Messenger’, they could even have the bout take place in hostile territory, Aldo’s hometown of Rio de Janeiro.
“If he wins, I would like to fight him in Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil. I love Brazil. I really want him to win. I really want that fight. He’ll fight Triple C, he’ll feel a pressure he has never felt before in his life. I’m ready to prove I’m the king of Rio.”
Jose Aldo is expected to take on Marlon Moraes at UFC 245, in Las Vegas, Nevada, on December 14. The card is scheduled to feature three title fights: the headliner, a welterweight bout between the champion, Kamaru Usman, and former interim title holder Colby Covington.
In the co-main event, a featherweight bout between champ Max Holloway and top contender Alexander Volkanovski, and just before that, a female bantamweight battle between double champ Amanda Nunes and former featherweight title holder Germaine de Randamie.
