UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor is just a week out for his highly-anticipated rematch against Nate Diaz, and the Irish champ recently held a media day to discuss the upcoming bout.

During the Q&A McGregor was asked if he would support the new fighter’s union known as the Professional Fighters Association (PFA), and ‘The Notorious One’ agreed, courtesy of MMA Fighting, a union for mixed martial artists (MMA) is a good thing for the combatants:

McGregorDiazBrawl2“It is important to bunch together and support each other,” McGregor said. “It’s a dangerous, crazy business we are in. We get in and risk everything. I have witnessed firsthand how these fighters risk it all.

Maybe in the future. Right now, I have got to focus on myself. That might be selfish, but this is the position I’m in right now. I have a lot going on.

I’ve gotta focus on my own self right now. But in the future, maybe I will help spearhead something like that. If it is presented correctly. I wouldn’t just jump in if it wasn’t gonna be done right.”

As for now McGregor is currently sitting in a good position with his current employers, as the 145-pound champ is smiling ear to ear on his way to the bank after every contest he contends under a UFC banner. McGregor does, however, recognize that not all his fellow mixed martial artists are in the same position:

“Many fighters are not in a great situation,” McGregor said. “I am blessed. I am blessed with the situation I am in.

I have worked very hard for this. I have came in and I have put in the work to be in the situation I am in.”

McGregor will meet Diaz in the main event of UFC 202 live on pay-per-view (PPV), from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on August 20, 2016.
