Daniel Cormier came up short last night (Sat., Aug. 15, 2020) at UFC 252 live on ESPN+ pay-per-view (PPV) from inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, when he lost his trilogy bout with UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic (highlights HERE).

After the fight, “DC” confirmed that the main event title loss was his final fight of his illustrious mixed martial arts (MMA) career.

We’ve known for quite some time that Cormier was hinting at retiring from the sport. The former UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champion originally planned on hanging up his gloves before he turned 40. The fact that we got to see him for an extra year is something special, even if his final two bouts were losses to the greatest heavyweight fighter of all time.

Following his loss to Miocic, Cormier stuck around to speak with UFC color commentator Joe Rogan. That’s where “DC” confirmed his intentions to walk away from MMA. Cormier, however, did mention that he could come back if another title fight was offered, but acknowledged that was unlikely to happen.

Check out the post-fight interview below courtesy of UFC/ESPN:

Cormier will leave behind a career record of 22-3 (1 NC) with 11 of those wins coming inside of the UFC’s Octagon. While “DC” will be most remembered for his rivalries with Jon Jones and Miocic, the former Olympic wrestler also holds key victories over Alexander Gustafsson, Anthony Johnson, Frank Mir, Dan Henderson, Anderson Silva, and Josh Barnett. He is also one of only four fighters to ever hold two UFC titles at the same time.

Now that the trilogy is over, what will you remember most about Cormier’s MMA career?
