A huge bout in the UFC women’s division may be unfolding before our very eyes.
In a recent media luncheon to promote her upcoming UFC 200 title bout, UFC women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate spoke on the possibility of stepping inside the Octagon with Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Justino:
“I think it would be really cool to fight Cyborg, honestly,” Tate said. “Like to really see what it’s like to be in there with someone with her power. … I’ll be the first to admit, physically I think I would be at a disadvantage, but I think that I can be the one to prove that I have the heart, the durability, the determination and the will power — and technique — to overcome that kind of challenge. And that intrigues me. That would be very rewarding to me.”
‘Cyborg’ must have caught wind of the 135-pound champion’s comments, because the Brazilian powerhouse striker took to Twitter to offer Tate a formal challenge, to go toe-to-toe inside the Octagon at UFC 205 in Madison Square Garden:
Justino would further elaborate on the terms to which the two women would have to agree too, if the fight were to ever come to fruition:
“I know how this story goes. I’m not going To 135,” Justino wrote. “Beat Amanda. Sign the contract. Then I will see you in New York. We can make it easy for the fans.”
Will the UFC take a potential super-fight between ‘Cyborg’ and Tate into consideration? Who do you think comes out on top?
