Dana White doesn’t dismiss Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano rumor

UFC color commentator Joe Rogan unwittingly set off a firestorm of rumors last week with his remarks during an appearance on KROQ’s Kevin & Bean Show.

Following a statement made by the show’s hosts that UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has no viable challengers left to fight, Rogan quickly replied, “Oh, you’re so incorrect. I wish I could tell you what I know. I wish I could tell you. I know some secret stuff. I know some secret stuff but I can’t tell you.

“I can say no more than I’ve already said,” Rogan continued. “I will tell you this, and this is a KROQ exclusive, within the next probably week or so a huge announcement will come about women’s fighting and I’ll be back in [the studio] and we’ll talk some more. It’s going to be crazy. Madness. I wish I could [talk about it now], but I would betray the confidence of my friend and employer.”

Once Rogan’s comments hit the rumor mill, the conversation quickly turned into a debate over whether Rogan was referring to Invicta FC featherweight champion Cris “Cyborg” Justino or former Strikeforce champion turned Hollywood actress Gina Carano, as the two women easily constitute the two biggest female draws presently available to the UFC.

According to a Wednesday report from Ariel Helwani on UFC Tonight, UFC President Dana White did not refute Rogan’s claim, but shot down the idea that an announcement regarding Rousey’s next fight would be made this week.

As for the possibility of Rousey vs. Carano, White added simply, “Where did that come from!? LOL.”
