After a heartbreaking loss at UFC 117, Chael Sonnen will likely receive an immediate rematch versus champion Anderson Silva, UFC president Dana White confirmed Tuesday during an in-studio ESPN SportsCenter appearance.
“Yeah, I think that’s the fight that fans want to see,” White said when asked about a Sonnen-Silva rematch. “The way that I see my job is my job is to give the fans what they want. I think that’s the fight they want to see. We got some interesting fights in that division. Vitor Belfort is still out there. I’m looking towards the Chael Sonnen rematch. Yes.”
While Belfort is obviously in the mix as he was scheduled to face Silva at UFC 112 in April before suffering a shoulder surgery, Belfort told Sherdog.com Monday that he will return to action in November, but his opponent according to Lorenzo Fertitta will not be Sonnen.
