Dana White once again proves bald is beautiful by making GQ’s “100 Most Powerful Bald Men in the World.”
The compilation of this list was based on power, influence and “just plain bad-ass looks.”
It certainly doesn’t get any more badass than White, who led the charge in turning a dying business into a global empire. The Ultimate Fighting Championship wasn’t seen as anything more than barbaric, human cockfighting before White and Station Casinos Executives Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta stepped into the picture.
White served as a manager to current Hall of Famers Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz when UFC parent company, Semaphore Entertainment Group (SEG), stood on the brink of bankruptcy. Despite huge financial troubles, White deeply believed something could be salvaged from the defunct promotion.
Luckily, he had friends with deep pockets he could turn to in hopes of turning a vision into a reality. The Fertittas eventually bought the UFC in January 2001 for a whopping $2 million, and named White president. Afterwards, the trio formed Zuffa, LLC as the parent company backing the promotion.
Everything else seems like a blur in the rear-view, as White immediately went to work in turning a two million dollar investment into a lucrative empire. White’s success with the UFC ultimately had a trickle-down effect that helped pave the way for success of numerous other MMA promotions all over the globe.
According to GQ, White makes the top-100 list because he has “done more than anyone to make MMA an actual thing.” Unfortunately, the UFC President only lands at No. 83 on the list, right behind rapper Bryan Williams, otherwise known as Birdman.
Keep it classy MMA fans. While White may not be a rap superstar, your UFC President has never shied away from an opportunity to get down, especially when in the presence of the “D.O. Double G.”
All in all, GQ has compiled a rather fine list. White’s inclusion at least makes up for Gandhi and Tommy Pickles being left out.
