Matt Brown is currently riding a six-fight win streak, and this week he entered the UFC welterweight Top 10 rankings for the first time in his career.
Now, the Ohio-born fighter, who has been absolutely blistering in his recent fights, has already gotten the call for his next bout in the Octagon, but it won’t be against the man who won on Wednesday night in Indianapolis.
Former UFC interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit blasted through Martin Kampmann en route to a fourth-round TKO stoppage, getting him back on track after two straight losses.
Condit is known as one of the most devastating and creative strikers in the UFC, and with Brown’s recent rise where he’s finished five out of his last six opponents via KO or TKO, the recipe for violence if those two met seemed like a natural fit.
While there’s no telling if Condit and Brown could possibly square off in the future, it won’t be the next fight on the radar for either man.
According to UFC president Dana White, Brown has already been offered his next fight, although he couldn’t release details about who he’s facing because the contracts have not been signed and accepted just yet.
“We’ve got a fight for Matt Brown already,” White said. “I don’t know if it’s signed yet, but we already have a fight for him. It’s a perfect fight for him.”
Brown just competed two weeks ago at the inaugural Fox Sports 1 showcase, where he destroyed former training partner Mike Pyle in just 29 seconds at UFC Fight Night 26 in Boston.
With Brown now entering the divisional rankings, it would seem the UFC will eye bigger and better matchups for the former Ultimate Fighter competitor. But, as of Wednesday, White wasn’t willing to name any names for the opponent they picked.
Most top-10 welterweights are already tied up with the exception of Jake Ellenberger, Nick Diaz (who is currently retired) and former Strikeforce welterweight champion Tarec Saffiedine.
Just because Brown has a fight doesn’t necessarily mean, however, that he will get a top-10 opponent.
For now, Brown will just wait for the UFC to make the announcement, but his next fight definitely won’t be against Carlos Condit—that much we know for sure.
