Rumors of a huge fight between Anderson Silva and Georges St-Pierre have been stirring up nostalgia all over the place this week. After retiring from the sport in 2013 and vacating the welterweight title, GSP has remained in headlines in relation to a comeback. Furthering the frenzy around his reported return, St-Pierre entered the USADA testing pool in recent weeks. ‘Rush’ hasn’t fought since his controversial split decision win over Johny Hendricks at UFC 167.
Being linked to a fight against ‘The Spider’ is not a new trend for GSP. With both men holding titles in the UFC between 2006-2013, a superfight was always a possibility. Fans clamoured for the bout between the two legends during their prime. Now that neither man holds a belt, some are saying the rumored pairing is coming too late. As of Thursday October 13, Anderson Silva has not officially won a fight in four years.
Dana White Talks GSP vs. Silva
When questioned about Georges St-Pierre’s potential return last month, UFC president Dana White was not hopeful. He said that ‘Rush’ had ‘lost the fire to fight’ and would ‘never come back.’ These comments were met by St-Pierre stating White ‘didn’t know anything’ about his possible comeback to the UFC.
Following the excitement of UFC 204 in Manchester last night, White was quizzed about the potential GSP vs. Silva fight at UFC 206.

Maybe Not?
Well, if Georges St-Pierre were to come back and fight Anderson Silva, would Dana White be announcing it backstage after UFC 204? Probably not, so the speculation about this bout will likely continue, but there’s obviously no guarantee at this stage.
Would GSP be better suited to another run at the welterweight title, or do the big money fights make more sense now? For ‘The Spider,’ getting a win is of paramount importance at this stage, as he’s now 41 and coming off four losses and a no-contest.
