Is there a more vindictive bunch than the gods that look over mixed martial arts? More specifically, how angry are the gods that watch over the coaches of The Ultimate Fighter?

Don’t think too hard about that. The answer is no: There is not a more spiteful bunch than the TUF gods. That fact was recently revealed to Cat Zingano.

Zingano had earned a shot to coach the upcoming season 18 of the UFC’s reality program when she knocked out Miesha Tate during the final card of season 17 of TUFHer opposing coach would be UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, a fighter Zingano would then battle for the title at a later date.

The TUF gods decided, “eh, not so fast there, Zingano,” when they laid her up with a torn ACL. An injury that required Zingano to undergo surgery Tuesday. No, Zingano was not doing anything crazy when the injury occurred, there was no slip on a banana peel, no running down a street stepping in dog doo and having her foot slide out at some crazy angle.

Zingano was just doing her normal strength and conditioning routine when the injury took place, as she told Yahoo.com’s Kevin Iole:

I was jumping over tunnels that were about 12 inches high. I’d jumped over them like 10 times already. This one time, I jumped up and my left knee came down right on track and my right knee bent outward.  Snap, crackle, pop, and I hit the floor. That was all she wrote. It was terrible. It hurt bad, but the thing that bothered me most was the sound. I never experienced anything like that.

With Zingano on the sideline, the call went out to Rousey’s nemesis, Miesha Tate. Tate quickly stepped in to literally face Rousey on the set of The Ultimate Fighter.

Filming began on the show Tuesday, and it will begin airing Sept. 4 on Fox Sports 1. Rousey and Tate will meet sometime this year in a title fight.

As for Zingano, according to Iole, she will be first in line to face the winner of that Rousey versus Tate matchup.
