Undefeated UFC heavyweight Daniel Cormier could be heading for an inevitable, 205-pound light heavyweight title fight, after he voiced his irritation at current champion Jon Jones on Fuel TV.

His comments came during the coverage of UFC 156 on Saturday, and were in response to recent remarks Jones had made, telling Cormier to “stop talking.”

“You know, the guy is a tremendous athlete and I wish he would just do it and just stop talking about it,” said Jones (h/t Fightline).

This comment clearly got under Cormier’s skin.

“Jon Jones, you’re firing me up,” said Cormier on Fuel TV (h/t Five Ounces of Pain). “Where I’m from, you don’t tell a man to shut up. That’s one thing you don’t do. Jon Jones, you and I will get it done.”

Cormier, whose career highlight so far has been winning Strikeforce’s heavyweight tournament last year, is scheduled to fight Frank Mir in his UFC debut at UFC on Fox 7. What happens after that, however, is less clear.

The 5’11” heavyweight is highly regarded as a potential champion, but his close teammate, Cain Velasquez, currently holds the UFC strap. Both Cormier and Velasquez have repeatedly said they would not fight each other, which leaves the possibility that Cormier would drop down to 205 pounds.

There he would face Jones, who has been the most dominant light-heavyweight champion in years.

Jones, meanwhile, is getting ready to face Chael Sonnen, his opposite number on the latest season of The Ultimate Fighter. That match is scheduled for UFC 159 in April, after which Jones is likely to face the winner of Lyoto Machida vs. Dan Henderson, who will fight at the end of the month.
