The upcoming “BMF” title fight between Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal is still alive and breathing (for now).

After Diaz spoke out yesterday and revealed that United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) had informed him of a failed drug test for elevated levels of a banned substance, the Stockton native claimed that he was no longer competing against “Gamebred” at UFC 244 on Nov. 2 in New York City. The MMA world proceeded to lose its shit as one of the biggest fights of the year hung in the balance.

According to a recent report by ESPN, Diaz, who tested positive for “trace amounts of a prohibited selective androgen receptor module (SARM),” has not been provisionally suspended for UFC 244 at this time. In case you have no idea what a SARM is, USADA was nice enough to break it down below:

“SARMs have the potential to be misused for performance enhancement in sport due to their anabolic properties as well as ability to stimulate androgen receptors in muscle and bone. They are currently prohibited at-all-times in the category of “other anabolic agents” under section S1.2 of the WADA Prohibited List. Some examples of SARMs are Ostarine and Andarine.”

While most of us have been waiting for an official statement from UFC detailing the status of UFC 244’s main event, it was Diaz who broke the silence earlier tonight with the following tweet (which has since been deleted):

@danawhite @ufc @UFCONFOX @espn @espnmma Clear my name or I ain’t doin shit..”

Diaz, who has been a huge voice in the fight against steroids in MMA, simply wants his name cleared before stepping foot back inside of the Octagon. That may be easier said than done considering USADA has already informed Diaz of the potential violation, but you never really know what UFC president Dana White and company can pull together in crunch time.

With no backup plan in place for UFC 244’s main event “BMF” title fight, it would be one of the biggest let downs of the year if Diaz vs. Masvidal failed to unfold in NYC. After all, UFC has billed this one of the most exciting fights of 2019 and even had a $50,000 belt made up for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to hand over to the winner.

Only time will tell how this entire situation plays out, but it seems as if Diaz needs a little more than just the green light to compete.
