Dillon Danis had a huge role to play in the events that transpired after the UFC 229 main event in October.
Following his submission win over Conor McGregor, UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov jumped the Octagon and attacked Danis. The incident sparked a huge team vs. team brawl inside and outside of the cage. All involved have been handed sanctions by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC).
Khabib alleges Danis made some anti-Muslim slurs that provoked the attack. However, appearing on “Ariel Helwani MMA Show’s” today, Danis denied such claims. Danis called the claims “disheartening” as he himself has Muslim friends and would never say anything like that (via Chamatkar Sandhu):
“That’s very disheartening. I have very close friends that are Muslim and many religions. That really hurt me actually. I would never say anything like that.”
Danis also went on to state that he doesn’t think the issues between Team McGregor and Team Khabib are done just yet. In fact, he expects a Khabib vs. McGregor II fight to happen at some point down the road. And when it does, Danis claims “The Notorious” will be the man coming out on top this time around.
