Donald Cerrone asks for Robbie Lawler fight at UFC: New York

Donald Cerrone vs Robbie Lawler? Yes, please.

Former welterweight champion Robbie Lawler is raring to get back in the Octagon after losing his title to Tyron Woodley last July at UFC 201. So much so that he has been constantly asking for a fight.

Interestingly enough, former lightweight title contender Donald Cerrone has since responded by asking for the bout.

Cerrone has fought most of his career at lightweight, but his impressive TKO win over Rick Story earlier in the month was his third straight victory at welterweight.

While Lawler vs Cowboy was never really a bout that many thought would be possible, I have to admit, now that Cerrone brought it up, it does guarantee fireworks and is suddenly a bout that will remain on my (somewhat) cross-divisional wishlist.

Lawler is currently the number 1 ranked welterweight, while Cerrone is now in the top 10 in both 155 and 170 lbs, standing at #6 and #7 respectively.

The promotion’s New York debut at Madison Square Garden happens at UFC 205, on November 12.
