No one who has followed MMA for any significant amount of time was surprised to hear last night that Donald Cerrone offered to step up on short notice and replace Tony Ferguson versus Khabib Nurmagomedov in the main event of UFC on FOX 19 from Florida.
With the April 19 card rapidly approaching, the fight between the two top-ranked lightweights who had previously scheduled bouts at UFC 178 and 187, was apparently signed, but a subsequent rib injury forced him to pull out:
Wow. I just signed contract to fight Cowboy at 170 3 hours later he hurt his ribs and pulled out. Any other opponent for April 16 #UFCTampa

Khabib then called out Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis for a fight:
Hey @Showtimepettis where are you? @danawhite @lorenzofertitta @ufc @arielhelwani #ufcTampa
— khabib nurmagomedov (@TeamKhabib) April 7, 2016
However, the plot thickened when Cerrone replied that he was just fine:
Let’s be Very Very Clear I didn’t pull out of a mother fucking thing. https://t.co/NV1M2PRaaG

Cerrone also told a fan who wished him a speedy recovery that there was nothing wrong with him:
There is nothing wrong with me https://t.co/vYOkJmP89W

Nurmagomedov then goaded Cerrone to sign the contract, which ‘Cowboy’ said he already had:
I already did bitch!! https://t.co/Bienw0vhGO
— Cowboy Cerrone (@Cowboycerrone) April 7, 2016
Then Cerrone got a bit heated at all the suggestions that he was hurt, taking a shot at Khabib’s frequent injuries:
It’s not my fault you have been hurt for 4 years, ufc don’t want you to get your ass whooped at 170! I always fight https://t.co/Bienw0vhGO
— Cowboy Cerrone (@Cowboycerrone) April 7, 2016
Khabib wanted to prove he signed to face him so he posted the supposed photo evidence of the contract:
@Cowboycerrone I signed my contract and beat you worse than how RDA just smashed you. Don’t be scared. pic.twitter.com/55f6ZpjSij

Interesting. With UFC on FOX 19 only 10 days away, it looks like the lightweight main event may or may not still be on. We’ll let you know what goes down soon.
