Donald Cerrone is set to fight Patrick Cote at the June 18, 2016 UFC Fight Night card in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, but he is also looking to fight at UFC 200.
It’s no secret that Cerrone does not like Conor McGregor because of the trash talks he brings to the fight game. Cerrone recently commented on McGregor not wanting to show up at the UFC 200 pre-fight press conference and being pulled from his fight with Nate Diaz at UFC 200.
“For ‘Mr. Press Conference’ not to want to do a press conference is insane,” Cerrone told MMA Junkie backstage MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. “They’re talking upwards of $8 (million), $9 million dollars he’s throwing away. I would literally ride a rocket ship to the moon for six months for $10 million to do a press conference.”
Cerrone then said that he would fight Diaz at the event.
“I’ll fight Diaz at 200, and I don’t need any more money,” Cerrone told reporters.
“Our job is to entertain,” Cerrone said. “That’s what we do; it’s part of the job. When you sign on the ‘X,’ I have to do all the media obligations for Ottawa (at UFC Fight Night 89). You think I want to? It’s just part of the job. It’s what we have to do.”
UFC 200 takes place at the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 9, 2016. The main card will air on PPV while the prelims air on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
It’s possible that the UFC puts Cerrone against Diaz at the event, but the real question is, will Diaz accept the fight? Time will tell.
