Anyone who shells out the cash for UFC 167 is in for one of the best MMA cards in recent memory, barring any injuries of course.
Donald Cerrone is set to scrap with another tenacious lightweight in the form of Evan Dunham on the Nov. 16 pay-per-view, Case Keefer of The Las Vegas Sun reports.
Cerrone is 3-2 in his past five fights, most recently dropping a competitive, yet clear cut decision to Rafael dos Anjos at UFC Fight Night 27 last Wednesday.
“Cowboy” was heavily favored in the bout and would certainly fall out of the division’s top 10 with a loss to Dunham, a distinction he’s had since making his UFC debut in February 2011.
Meanwhile, in an uncanny coincidence, Dunham has also posted a 3-2 mark in his past five bouts and most recently lost to dos Anjos (though that matchup was at UFC on FX 8 in May).
Many pundits believed Dunham had done more than enough to earn the decision victory over the well-rounded Brazilian competitor, but the judges in Brazil apparently saw otherwise.
A loss for either fighter would more than likely stamp them as a gatekeeper in the UFC’s talent-heavy 155-pound weight class.
The event, which takes place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, now boasts six high-profile matchups between well-established fighters.
Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir is squaring off with ex-Strikeforce/K-1 titleholder Alistair Overeem, while Josh Koscheck takes on Tyron Woodley in a welterweight clash between two accredited collegiate wrestlers.
Also at welterweight, surging contenders Rory MacDonald and Robbie Lawler will meet, with a decisive win by either fighter giving them a solid argument for the next title shot.
In another bout that could have serious title implications, the co-main event pits FUEL TV analysts Chael Sonnen and Rashad Evans, a former champion, against one another in a light heavyweight showdown.
Finally, the headlining bout of the evening is a 170-pound title fight between long-time champion Georges St-Pierre and challenger Johny Hendricks.
