Dustin Poirier predicts he will knock out Bobby Green at UFC 199

If the mixed martial arts (MMA) world has forgotten about Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Featherweight defector Dustin Poirier, it should pay close attention.

Poirier (19-4) has reinvented himself at the Lightweight level. Since leaving the 145-pound division behind after succumbing to Conor McGregor’s power at UFC 178, the 27-year-old has displayed an evolved package of crisp striking, overwhelming grappling, and finishing ability. As a result, the former Featherweight contender has won his first three appearances at 155 pounds.

Currently scheduled to welcome Strikeforce veteran Bobby Green back to the Octagon at UFC 199 on June 4, Poirier will have a prime opportunity to catapult himself to the borders of title contention. Defeating Green would separate him from the rest of the pack.

“I’m expecting the same stuff he always does,” said Poirier in a recent interview with MMAjunkie. “Dance around, talk (expletive), throw big punches, big kicks. He doesn’t really set anything up that well. Seems like he has good instincts, he’s a good athlete and he has a lot of experience.”

Undefeated as a UFC Lightweight, Poirier has become even more confident as he enters the prime of his MMA career.

“He’s been out a while so I’m sure he’s hungry to get in front of those cameras and put on a show,” added Poirier. “We’ll see who’s tougher, who’s better that night. I think I’m going to pick him apart and put him away. I’m going to knock Bobby Green out.”

Considering Green has lost just once in his career by knockout, doing so to “The Dirty Bird” Tim Means back at King of the Cage: Inferno in 2010, a knockout finish for Poirier would be very impressive.

UFC 199 will be headlined by a Middleweight title fight between champion Luke Rockhold and Michael Bisping, and the co-main event will be a Bantamweight trilogy fight between champion Dominick Cruz and long-time nemesis Urijah Faber.
