Joe Duffy will receive an opportunity to impress his local fans with a UFC Dublin main event showdown against Dustin Poirier on Oct. 24.
UFC UK announced the 27-year-old fighter will have his name in lights after winning his first two encounters in the organisation:
Sports writer Paul Dollery thinks UFC President Dana White expects Duffy to become a star in the lightweight division:
Duffy debuted with a first-round win over Jake Lindsey in March, before stopping Ivan Jorge inside the opening minutes during his second appearance on July 18. His record currently stands at 14-1 in the professional game, per ESPN.com.
Poirier is an experienced opponent who has 13 UFC fights under his belt. He has emerged victorious in five of his last six, losing only to interim featherweight champion and all-round superstar Conor McGregor in this time.
The 26-year-old is currently ranked 14th in the lightweight division after consecutive victories over Carlos Diego Ferreira and Yancy Medeiros, both of whom he stopped in the first round.
Duffy actually has a 2010 win over McGregor on his record from their time in Cage Warriors. He will now be looking to follow in his fellow Irishman’s footsteps to land the biggest win of his career so far in front of a packed 3Arena crowd.
