EA Sports UFC 2 is now less than four weeks away, so a lot more information is starting to come out. The latest is the above video, which outlines some of the changes to both the single player career mode and the online championships multiplayer mode. There’s a good outline on the EA Sports website, but here are the basics:

  • Online championship mode now progresses differently so that it’s not the end of the world anymore if you lose a fight. In the first game, online belt rankings were directly tied to “seasons” and how many fights you won in each season.
  • In career mode, you have to balance your training to be in peak condition for your fights and avoid injury.
  • Career mode also has “career defining moments,” but it’s not clear yet what those are.
  • As previously announced, career mode now offers the ability to create female fighters.

EA Sports UFC 2 is out March 15th for Playstation 4 and Xbox One, and is available for pre-order now. Based on the multiplayer beta that EA Sports did a few weeks ago, it appears that right now, the consensus is that it will be a big improvement over the first game, which got pretty mixed reviews. Of note is the new grappling system, which, for the first time in a MMA video game, allows players to attempt moves simultaneously instead of always being in an effectively turn-based battle. It’s used for both floor grappling and the game’s clinches.
