UFC featherweight Eddie ‘The Filipino Phenom’ Yagin (16-5-1) has been hospitalized with an apparent brain injury following a training session this past weekend.

Yagin was scheduled to face Dennis ‘The Menace’ Siver (20-8) at next months UFC on FOX 5 event.

News of Yagin’s injury was first reported by MMAFighting.com earlier today who learned of the news from Yagin’s manager Jason House.

“He suffered it in sparring on Saturday,” House said. “The injury was not the result of a certain strike or exchange. [He] came home, had a headache, started to vomit whatever liquids he drank and then decided to go to the ER the next day.”

House said that according to Yagin’s family, doctors said Yagin has swelling on his brain, which caused pressure and led to his headaches. While Yagin remains hospitalized, as of this writing, doctors believe surgery won’t be necessary.

UFC on Fox: Henderson vs. Diaz is expected to take place on December 8, 2012 at KeyArena in Seattle, Washington. The bout between Yagin and Siver had originally been scheduled to take place at UFC 151 and was rescheduled for the FOX preliminary card. No new opponent has been announced by UFC officials at this time.

Yagin is coming off a split decision win against former contender Mark Hominick at last April’s UFC 145 event which saw both fighters earn the “Fight of the Night” bonus. Yagin is 1-1 in his last two and is 3-1 in his last four bouts.
