Former undisputed UFC lightweight and featherweight champion, Conor McGregor, is officially an unranked fighter under the banner of the organization for the first time in an eight-year period – after he fell from the lightweight top-15 upon the release of the latest ranking update.
McGregor, a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight champion during his time with the promotion, most recently headlined UFC 264 back in July of last year against the #2 ranked, Dustin Poirier – suffering a first round doctor’s stoppage loss after he fractured his left tibia and fibula.
In the time since, Conor McGregor, 34, has yet to return to active competition under the banner of the promotion, as he recovers from a surgical procedure to address his debilitating leg injury. And recently made his intentions clear to make a return to the Octagon at the welterweight limit of 170lbs.
Conor McGregor drops from official lightweight top-15
Upon the release of the nw updated UFC rankings this week following last weekend’s UFC 282 event in Las Vegas, Nevada, McGregor has now dropped from the #14 rank in the division, and entirely out of the top-15 to boot – with the surging, Grant Dawson replacing the Dubliner in the official pack.
Without a victory at the lightweight limit since November 2016, Conor McGregor minted himself as the first two-weight champion held simultaneously under the banner of the UFC on that occasion, landing a second round TKO victory over Eddie Alvarez.
In the time since, McGregor has gone 0-3 in the division, suffering stoppage losses to former undisputed champion, Khabib Numagomedov, and a pair of defeats to former interim titleholder, Poirier.
McGregor’s most recent professional win came at the welterweight limit back in January 2020, stopping future Hall of Fame inductee, Donald Cerrone with a 40-second high-kick and strikes knockout in their main event slot.
