Ultimate Fighting Championship newcomer, Maiquel Falcão, had a rear-naked-choke submission applied to opponent Gerald Harris in the dying seconds of their UFC 123 bout last Saturday night. Harris was saved by the bell before he was forced to tap, and Falcão was forced off Harris by referee Dan Miragliotta, who proceeded to scold the Brazilian for holding the submission after the bell.

Falcão would go on to defeat Harris by unanimous decision, but if you’ve watched the above video, you’ll see that the first round ended seven seconds too early.

It may not have clicked in to fans watching at home as the UFC broadcast dropped the clock with ten seconds remaining on the round, but there isn’t any doubt that the round ended too early.

It will be interesting to see what sort of investigation will take place and what sort of results will come of it. This is probably just human error but we’re sure the conspiracy theorists will have a field day with this one over the next week.
