Georges St-Pierre will be making his highly anticipated return at UFC 154 to unify the UFC welterweight title and interim UFC welterweight title against Carlos Condit.

As one would expect, St-Pierre has been in all forms of media in the weeks prior to the event, talking about how far he’s come from the injury and how he expects to perform in future endeavours.

A recent interview GSP did with the LA Times is drawing some attention for something the welterweight champion said. St-Pierre let it be known who he thinks is the best guy in the UFC, saying, “No. 1 is Frankie Edgar; he’s the best pound-for-pound fighter we have.”

Edgar went on an improbable run after dropping a fight to Gray Maynard in 2008, winning six of his next seven fights including the trilogy bout against Maynard and defeating the best lightweight of all time, BJ Penn; twice.

Still, Edgar is coming off a loss to UFC lightweight champ Benson Henderson, and he is dropping down to a different weight class. That makes GSP‘s response somewhat odd, but he doesn’t believe the loss hurt Edgar’s standing in the pound-for-pound ranks.

St-Pierre went on, “He lost his fight to Benson Henderson only according to the judges. He was much stronger than Henderson.”

The decision at UFC 150 is one of the most heated decisions in recent memory and perhaps in UFC history with fans of both fighters making good cases as to why their guy won.

Interestingly, St-Pierre took himself out of the top three, allotting the second spot to Jon Jones and third place to Anderson Silva. He said, “I haven’t fought in a long time. I’m out of it. After Carlos Condit, maybe I’ll be back.”

St-Pierre takes on Condit in the main event of UFC 154 on Nov. 17. UFC 154’s co-main event is a huge welterweight showdown between Martin Kampmann and Johny Hendricks. Rising contender Francis Carmont, UFC mainstays like Alessio Sakara and Tom Lawlor, along with popular Canadian fighters like Mark Hominick and Sam Stout.
