Georges St-Pierre presents a terrible matchup for Nick Diaz

The hype behind this fight is immense, and the pre-fight trash talk has been extraordinary.

But do not be fooled.

Nick Diaz struggles against dominant wrestlers, and GSP is arguably the most dominant wrestler in UFC history.

Furthermore, Nick Diaz is known to taunt his opponents and force them to engage in wild brawls—a style in which Diaz excels—and GSP has long been known as one of the most focused and cool-headed, almost robotic, fighters of all time.

If you could build the perfect fighter to beat Nick Diaz, you would build GSP

That said, GSP needs to follow a strict game plan to emerge victorious in this bout.

Yes, the skill set is there for him, but Diaz will capitalize on any slip-up and potentially steal the victory.

The challenger is a worthy adversary, and to underestimate his skills would be a devastating fault on the part of the champion.

Normally, a “keys to victory” article would be presented as a slideshow, but this one is cut and dry, folks.

Key to Victory for Georges St-Pierre: Do Your Thing

That is it for GSP

If he can remain calm, avoid the brawl—tempting as it may be—and grind Diaz with his stifling wrestling and top game, he will win this fight.

Despite what past performances would have you believe, GSP can end fights in dramatic fashion, but if he gets overzealous in his pursuit of the finish, he will only facilitate Diaz‘s upset.

GSP needs to beat up Diaz on the feet with his picture-perfect jab, and then he needs to shoot for the takedown and continue to work his foe from the top.

Nothing in MMA is guaranteed, and no game plan is fail-safe.

Diaz could catch GSP in a number of ways standing or from his back, but the fact remains that GSP‘s victory can be earned by following one simple step: keep your cool and do what you always do.

If GSP goes out and performs as he always has, he will win this fight.

His style is the perfect foil for Diaz, and to think otherwise is ignorant (this coming from a guy hoping for the upset, by the way).

Should GSP follow this plan, he will emerge victorious, and Diaz will become nothing but another faded nuisance in the champion’s legacy.
