UFC light heavyweight Glover Teixeira offered up his personal opinion on the state of gun control laws in a video recently released by DemandAction.org.
Check out the short video embedded above.
The Brazilian powerhouse revealed that he is in favor of having U.S. lawmakers bolster the country’s gun control laws, especially in the wake of the tragic Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that left 28 people dead, including 20 first-grade students and two people injured last December in Newtown, Conn.
The incident, considered the second-deadliest mass shooting by a single person in American history, has turned the gun control issue into a personal one for the light heavyweight, as his seven-year-old niece was a student at the school during the time of the shooting.
“My niece was a first-grader at Sandy Hook Elementary,” Teixeira said in the video. “She survived. She was lucky. We were lucky. Her life, our kids, her future, they can’t always count on luck.”
Teixeira goes on to give his thoughts about assault weapons as well as calling for a more “common sense” approach to enacting gun control laws.
Regardless of where you stand on the issue, you have to admit, those are some pretty powerful words by the budding MMA star.
