Georges St-Pierre is tired of the MMA world overlooking Carlos Condit and harping on an Anderson Silva superfight that may never happen.
During a phone interview with the New York Post, a noticeably upset St-Pierre put an end to the Silva rumors and forced the spotlight back on Condit.
I hate that. They talk to me about the next fight, and I’m not there. Like I’m supposed to win easy, like it’s a joke. Carlos Condit is a dangerous guy. I always respect my opponent. My life is on the line…
It depends on the time. I don’t know. I haven’t thought about [fighting Silva]. I know he’s a big guy. I have to sit down and analyze it.
UFC President Dana White has stated publicly that he is working towards the St-Pierre and Silva superfight, but he would never force a fighter to move up in weight.
Fresh off his spectacular knockout over Stephan Bonnar, Silva continues to express interest in facing St-Pierre at middleweight or possibly even at catch weight.
Outside of fielding questions from fans and the media, St-Pierre has never shown any real interest in fighting Silva. There are already plenty of challenges in front of him in the ever-growing UFC welterweight division.
A move to middleweight would be a great risk for St-Pierre, one that even Silva could attest to.
When asked about moving up in weight to challenge UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones, Silva’s hesitation stems from some of his teammates already being in the title mix and the sheer difficulty of competing at a heavier weight.
As the UFC’s biggest draw, St-Pierre can’t afford to look ahead.
He is coming off a serious knee injury, and it has been well over a year since he last competed. Condit is an incredibly difficult opponent coming off such a long layoff.
Still, St-Pierre isn’t upset at Silva for calling him out; he sees nothing wrong with seeking marquee matchups.
“Name the top guy, and they’ve said they want to fight me. They want to make money. It’s normal. I understand why they want to fight me,” said St-Pierre.
