Promising women’s flyweight contender Mariya Agapova looked tremendous in her return to the Octagon earlier today (Sat., Oct. 9, 2021) at UFC Vegas 39 live on ESPN+ from inside UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, when she finished savvy opponent Sabina Mazo with a third-round submission (rear-naked choke).
Coming off a disappointing loss to Shana Dobson it was key that Agapova showed improvements in her game against Mazo. Agapova was able to do just that by controlling her aggression, picking her shots, and peppering Mazo with strikes in bunches. Agapova did this for 10-straight minutes before finding a home for a brutal right hand in Round 3. Mazo fell to the canvas and Agapova jumped on her back for the quick submission finish.
