Derrick Lewis set a UFC heavyweight record with his 11th knockout finish last night (Sat., Aug. 8, 2020) at UFC Vegas 6 live on ESPN+ from inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, when “Black Beast” stopped submission specialist Aleksei Oleinik via second-round TKO (punches).

Lewis launched a big kick to start the first and eventually secured a takedown along the cage. Oleinik flipped the script, got back to his feet, and scored his own takedown into a scarf hold submission attempt. Lewis was able to scramble to his feet but Oleinik secured another takedown and tried the same submission again. “Black Beast” would power his way through the choke but started to tire.

After a little bit of rest between rounds Lewis burst out of the gate in the second and landed a monstrous right hand that sent Oleinik to the canvas. “Black Beast” followed his knockdown up with heavy ground-and-pound before referee Herb Dean stepped in for the stoppage.

Lewis may have been one round short of his prediction for a third-round finish, but this TKO win over Oleinik remains just as sweet. Unfortunately, the win may not move Lewis much in the heavyweight division as top contenders Francis Ngannou and Curtis Blaydes crowd the line to a title shot. At least this one puts “Black Beast” in the UFC record books.
