Canelo Alvarez did more than enough to retain his undisputed super middleweight crown last night (Sat., May 4, 2024) live on DAZN pay-per-view (PPV) from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, outlasting fellow Mexican fighter Jaime Munguia in a Cinco de Mayo main event.

Alvarez and Munguia went toe-to-toe in the early going. Munguia had the clear size and reach advantage, but Canelo was able to counter with serious power. Both fighters showed good speed over the first three rounds and it was truly anyone’s fight.

That was until the fourth round when Canelo leveled Munguia with a nasty inside uppercut. Munguia’s head snapped back and he fell to the canvas. It was the biggest moment of the fight and the first knockdown Munguia has ever experienced.

Alvarez looked to pull away down the final stretch, but Munguia never stopped swinging. The young Mexican fighter lived up to his billing. Unfortunately, Alvarez was the better and more dangerous fighter on Saturday night and did enough to earn the unanimous decision victory.
