Highlights! Figueiredo Batters Benavidez Before Putting Him To Sleep

Deiveson Figueiredo left nothing to the imagination last night (Sat., July 18, 2020) at UFC Fight Island 2 live on ESPN+ from inside Flash Forum on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, as he ran through Joseph Benavidez in their main event rematch to claim a first-round submission (rear-naked choke) and the vacant UFC flyweight title.

Figueiredo wasted little time landing his biggest shots as he planted Benavidez early into the first. The Brazilian nearly finished Benavidez with a plethora of rear-naked choke attempts, but Benavidez showed his true veteran grit. Unfortunately for Benavidez, Figueiredo knocked him down again later in the first and once again pounced on top. He landed heavy ground-and-pound before grabbing a hold of Benavidez’s back and eventually putting him to sleep with the rear-naked choke finish.

Figueiredo wasn’t able to walk away with the title the first time he stopped Benavidez after missing weight, but the Brazilian finisher showed his true colors on “Fight Island” and becomes the new UFC flyweight champ. Figueiredo’s aggressive style and incredible power will be entertaining to watch as a slew of hungry flyweight contenders fight their way to his doorstep.
